Castiel can feel the Presence within him, resting quietly at the back of his soul. Be calm, the Presence murmurs. Do not fear.

What is Your will? Castiel asks, eyes on the sky, stretching his wings. He had been dead. He knows it.

Do as you have done, My son, the Presence tells him. Care for the Winchester brothers. Protect them from any threat, no matter its origin.

How will this end? Castiel asks, taking to the air. Will Dean—

Do not worry, Castiel, his Father commands. Like you and Lucifer, like Michael, Dean has a part yet to play. He and his brother will do great things.

Dean is no one’s pawn, Castiel says, hardly daring to believe he’d speak so to God.

God laughs, warmth spreading through Castiel’s body. Being near the boy has changed you, child.

Yes, Castiel agrees. For the better.

Tell me, God murmurs. You died for Dean Winchester. Would you die for your brother Michael?

Castiel hears Dean’s voice, growling at Zachariah. He turns and hurries toward them, God’s wind lending him speed.

My child, God says. Take a portion of my strength. I will return.

Wait, Castiel calls, moments from Dean. Father.  How does it end?

He feels God smile, bright as sunrise. Michael will take up his sword and make a choice. God’s hand touches his face, light pouring through him. I wrote the beginning, Castiel. I leave it to my creations to write the finish.

God departs and Castiel is empty, only himself in what had once been Jimmy Novak’s body. Fire still courses in him, a miniscule amount of God’s power and knowledge.

Dean is in pain. Refusing Zachariah because Zachariah—like Uriel—does not understand him. Has not cradled him close in the bowels of Hell, still stained with blood and Alistair’s stench.

Castiel is beyond the hierarchy of Heaven. He chose Dean and died, ripped apart by an archangel he could never have equaled. But now, he has been resurrected by God’s own hand, breathed back into life by God’s own breath.

Protect the Winchesters against any threat—that is God’s will. Protecting Dean is Castiel’s one wish.

God’s fingerprints are on Castiel, and so be it.

Let Zachariah and his followers, the fools, tremble. Castiel has seen God’s face and heard His voice and felt His love.

Dean is in pain and angry. Castiel will end it, and let Zachariah deny all he wants—Castiel is God’s vessel and he burns with God’s inextinguishable fire.

Father, he says, stepping back into the world.

They are yours, God replies. Protect themLove them. Know Me and be not afraid.

Castiel looks upon Dean Winchester, defying Zachariah with every fallible particle of his soul, and whispers, Let there be light.

l

C’mon, Shawn, he says that first day. This isn’t funny anymore.

The second day, he tries bribes and pleading.

The third, he’s angry and pulls out threats, all the things he’s been witness to over the years.

The fourth day, he spends in the chapel and doesn’t go to see Shawn.

On the fifth, he reviews everything the police have, and what Shawn had dug up, information found legally and not.

The sixth day, he reads to Shawn aloud, a cookbook about pineapple. Shawn’s dad stops by and listens silently for a little while. He leaves as quietly as he came.

Day seven, he says, Please, Shawn. Please wake up now.

It rains the eighth day. Lassiter shoots the man responsible and Gus whispers, Goodbye.

You died for Dean Winchester.

O.O Okay. Wow. Crap. You know, until I read that there it hadn't sunk in that that's exactly what happened. Castiel really is part of the Winchester family! \o/

I'm going to be looking like this ----> O.O all day now. Thanks! :-D

Wow!! That was really fantastic. Beautifully written. I loved particularly how you had God noticing how Castiel has been changed by Dean (and Sam).

Both fics are awesome (two of my favorite fandoms, as a matter of fact)! Love your portrayal of God in the SPN one, and how heartbreakingly understated the Psych fic is...

Thanks for posting!

You can do more with fewer words than many writers I know of. I consider myself walloped after that, amazing.

That SPN ficlet is one of the most beautiful things I've read in a LONG time.

*pause to wibble over Gus and Shawn*

But, oh. Castiel. God touched his face... *weebleweeble*

I want it to be this for Castiel. I want him to burn with that indistinguishable flame, and for Dean to be his own sword in the ultimate, final battle.

Gorgeous stuff, lady. Good to see you ficcing. :-)

Well, my heart broke. Thanks.

Seriously though, you put a lot of punch into your Psych drabble, lovely job.
