For as long as you can remember, you heard him when he talked. Heard him when he didn’t talk, too. Can’t help but hear him.

You listened when he complained about school and Dad and hunting. You listened when he ranted for hours about the various things he didn’t—couldn’t—have.  You listened when he whispered at night what he wanted—just safe. Normal. A life without blood.

You let him talk. You never responded with your fears or wants. You had everything you wanted.

For as long as you remember, you listened.

And now… that’s all you can do.

Ooh intriguing. My first thought is that it's about Dean, but now I'm wondering if it's Jess. Very well written.

That is a good read. It could be anyone and everyone.

But I'll settle for Dean :o) Thanks for sharing!

Back then, yes. And oh the pain that he doesn't still have it, not in a way he can count on.

And now… that’s all you can do.
This makes me think that this is a Stanford-period fic, but either way Dean can't solve this larger problem for Sam.

Nicely done. :)

Oh. I think I know what you're doing with this. Heartbreaking. (Going to go read part 2 now).
