Seeing as Anubis' domain is dealing with the dead, and that's part of what Dean does as a hunter, (though he doesn't necessarily deal with them the same way,) definitely Anubis. I don't see much connection between Dean and Aten. Someone else please explain why Aten is so popular?
I detest Aten because of his stupid followers and their cult which did away with the awesome Egyptian gods and goddesses and replaced them with a lame old solar disk (I may have sub - huhn - make that consciously compared him with another obscure religious cult that managed to wipe out the richness of our mythological past). And the art that surrounded his period of supremacy was icky (I learned about Aten during Art History 201 - blegh!). In my mind, Aten will always look like the pharaoh with his belly paunch and skeletal limbs, lethargic and powerless, swooning on his throne.
I'm not all that fond of Dean named for Anubis, but anything is better than Aten.
I stand by Siris. Apparently, my fondness for Egyptian gods remains unaroused.
If you're interested, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Akhenaten%2C_Nefertiti_and_their_children.jpg) is Akhenaten, his wife, and their children. Akhenaten took an obscure Egyptian god and declared him the supreme god of the Egyptians, defacing the art, etc. of the other gods. He later claimed that Aten was the only god. Aten is never depicted beyond his solar disc. Akhenaten was a lousy ruler and once he died, the cult of Aten was wiped out as though it had never been.
I never actually studied Egyptian art or mythology, but it was a big part of my Art History survey.
Ra is fine, it just never struck me as appropriate for either Dean or dog. But I could live with Ra. Really, I can live with anything and it's your story, I just have bad associations for Aten.
