Rating: PG
Wordcount: 155
Point of view: second
Notes: written for [profile] sammessiah, to the prompt The end of the big battle, and Heaven's won. Whose side is Dean on?

I offer you a choice. The thundering voice is kind. Stay here forever… or leave and never return.
Your soul aches. You are so tired. To stay is to have peace
Where is he? you ask. You cannot be content if you do not know—you’ve spent a lifetime—eternity—concerned with him. You can’t turn your back now.
There is a pause in everything; time stops. He is gone, the voice finally says, and time resumes.
Gone? The word must be wrong. Gone where? You beat back panic; it is a simple misunderstanding, nothing more.
The voice answers softly, Into oblivion.
You can choose Heaven or the Earth—the war is over and there is no Hell anymore. But he is not there. He is not anywhere.
To choose Heaven is to have peace; to choose Earth is to have life.
            But neither is Sam.
Send me to him, you say.
            There was never another option.

SQUEE! You did my prompt!

*smishes it* Wow. I really like this, it's totally not what I would have come up with. Very moving, very cool. And of course Dean made the only choice he could. DEEEN!

*hugs*

So much power with so few words - that just shows how good a writer you are. This is brilliant!

I'm sure there is supposed to be some sort of rule that drabbles can't make me tear up.

Damn. Gorgeous and heartbreaking take on the prompt.

This is such a fabulous prompt, I really like it, and I was surprised that Dean chose a third option. But the way you wrote it, there was never any other choice.

There's always a choice, and when given only two, pick the third.
Oh, Dean...

Though I have to admit you sending Sam away, utterly gone, took me a while to accept. And Dean... nope, sorry, can't get over how utterly fricking hurty that boy is. *sniff*

But at least they'll be together again.

The glee induced by your icon has offset the angst of this story.

Nice balance.

I honestly don't know. It was made by [livejournal.com profile] mata090680, and I've never been sure if it was a JA photo, a Dean one, or one from another role. I've never seen the original photo. I just am a huge sucker for clever crossover icons.

Thank you! Glad it could bring glee. [livejournal.com profile] chal made it for a prompt I left at the [livejournal.com profile] sammessiah fanworksathon. It's amazingly hypnotic *stares*

Found the pic on someone's picspam, here. The tag says 2.21, so I assume it's the beginning of Andy's zapping Dean with a "vision" of Cold Oak.

Hear that? That was the sound of my heart breaking over this fic.

Few but extremely powerful words that convey all the worry, the pain, and the obvious love (there was never another option) Dean has for Sam.

Yes, just... yes. Beautiful.
