So, I've gotten an AU real person fic idea. Wanna hear it?
A young woman shows up at a slave-trader's outfit. She says she's there in place of "Lord Padalecki", because he had some last-minute business he couldn't get out of. The slaver leads her to the showroom, where she looks over all the "wares". She finally selects one and the slaver says not him, because he'll probably be put down in a few days.
She gives him A Look and asks, "Are you refusing Lord Padalecki?" The man stammers a negative. The woman asks, "How much did you pay for him?" The slaver answers, "25000". She offers 75000 and the slaver accepts.
She asks the slave his name. The slaver answers "Obsidian." The woman calls him "Sid" and tells him to follow her. Sid does.
She leads him out of the showroom, through the building, into sunlight. He closes his eyes, face to the sun, and she smiles. "I thought you'd be a creature of day," she says. "Not like me; I prefer the moon." She keeps up a steady stream of soothing talk as they walk to the carriage, chatting about the manor where she lives, Lord Padalecki's home, and how the stars gleam at night, how clear the sky is.
Sid never speaks, just watches her, eyes blank.
The carriage starts and goes a way through the town, before the woman orders it to stop at a restaurant. She orders a sandwich and Sid a bowl of soup. "I don't know when the last time you had a true meal is, so we'll stick to easy stuff for awhile." He stares at her. "Eat," she says; hesitantly, with frequent shocked looks at her, he does.
They go on to a bookstore:
"My sister's been wanting some books," she tells Sid. "And Jared could always use more."
He follows her into the store, where the clerk greets her with a boisterous hello. Sid's eyes widen and he gazes at all the books in wonder. The woman smiles again, making a note of the books he stares longest at. "You know how to read?" she asks? He lowers his head, looking at the floor. "Go ahead," she says. "We'll be here for a bit."
She wanders through the stacks, trying to choose; it's a shock when she gets spun around, a man in her space. "I have a message for you, bitch," the assassin says, grabbing for her neck.
Her snake, resting beneath her shirt(a thin, small viper), slithers up through the collar, lunging, but before she can get a bite in, the man is pulled away, Sid's face cold and vicious. The clerk summons the authorites. Sid still never speaks, but sticks close to her.
She picks all her purchases, tossing a few of the books Sid had been looking at into the pile. "Thank you," she tells him. "You didn't have to--you could have let him kill me and then escaped into the city."
He looks at the ground. She smiles again.
Outside, on their way back to the carriage, a falcon lands on her shoulder, enters the carriage with them. "This is Tig," she tells Sid. "And this pretty girl is Kal," she says, as the viper slithers outside her clothes. "They're the Thirds of me." His gaze is assesing; she is pleased. She'd known he wasn't broken. "The fewer pieces your soul is in, the stronger you are. If any piece dies, you're weakened forever." She cocks her head, looking at him. "Do you know why I picked you, Sid?" She reaches out, touches his bare bicep. "You have a Souler's mark. We're a dying breed. Lord Padalecki's land is the last place we congregrate in any large number." She continues to gaze at him assessingly: "I won't ask you what your Soul is, yet; you've no reason to trust me. But you will be safe at Lord Padalecki's. You will be free."
And that's as far as I've gotten. Yes, the woman is me. *sigh* The setting is sort of a mixture of colonial times and the future, and The Golden Compass.

And Christmas... I love my in-laws. Comparing the Christmases after I met my husband and the ones with my own family is like comparing the Sun and the Moon.
This is awesome time of the year. Even if my sister-in-law's husband wondered out loud why on earth dear husband and I celebrate the holidays, since we've quit the church...
In a word: my Christmas was awesome.
*cherishes*
