I read Elvenblood before Elvenbane and followed it pretty well.

Date: 2008-02-29 11:51 pm (UTC)It's funny, 'cause I can't find my own copies of The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife right now, just The Amber Spyglass (Book 3). I have the hardcover of that one.
There's also a small companion book called Lyra's Oxford, and another called Once Upon a Time in the North (focusing on Iorek and Lee) comes out April 3 this year. The Book of Dust comes out in 2009.
