unfinished Dean canon fic

This is part of my Dean canon.  Just a small snippet in time, really.  I can't remember where I was going with it.

            They’ve been living together for five months the night Jessica wakes and realizes Sam isn’t next to her. She rubs at her eyes and glances at the clock—it’s a quarter till two in the morning. Way too early to be up.

            She tries to roll over and go back to sleep, but it doesn’t work. She’s always been a curious girl, and besides—something could be wrong with Sam. So she slips out of bed and pads down the hall.

            The kitchen light is on and Sam’s sitting at the table, a loaf of French bread next to his bowl of strawberries. “Sam?” she asks and he turns to face her.

            “Hey, Jess,” he replies, stabbing a strawberry slice with his fork and popping it into his mouth. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”

            “You didn’t,” she assures him and walks over to sink down across from him. “Is everything alright?”

            He nods. “I just couldn’t sleep, is all. You should go back to bed.” He looks back down at the bowl and slides the fork around in the juice, entirely too melancholy to be the man she loves. He eats the last strawberry slice and tears off a piece of French bread, dipping it in the juice.   She watches in shock as he gulps it down and then tears off another piece, does it again.

*sniffles a bit*

I kinda like it as just a glimpse. Or there could be slightydrunk!Sam admitting to her a week later that Dean eats French bread and strawberries, and Jess would get cold shivers down her spine, because suddenly, Sam doesn't seem like ::hers:: anymore. Poor girl.
