I was really surprised that it didn't have more comments, because it definitely is one of those pieces that should be read. The consequences are all through the story, and there isn't a magical, easy way out. No lion-turtles to save the day. It's the kind of story that breaks your heart, but if it didn't have this ending it would make the entire rest of the story not worth as much.
