theories for 4.19

I don't do spoilers, so I have no idea what will actually happen in the ep.  These are just my ideas of what will most likely occur.

A) It's a demon plot.

B) It's an angelic plot, like Dean Smith&Sam Wesson was.

C) The kid is actually their brother and dies at the end. Probably through either Dean or Sam's mistake.

D) The kid is wrong about being their brother.

E) It's a dream, like Castiel sending Dean to the past was.

See, the thing is, I don't think he's actually gonna be their brother, and if he is, he can't stay alive.  It's all about Dean and Sam, you know?  So, his death will gallvanize them in their fight against evil, or he's some sort of trick--to get them off their game, I guess?  I mean, when John knew he was about to die, he would have told Dean--if he knew about the kid.  So, either he didn't or the kid isn't a Winchester.

I was thinking that the third brother, whether he is or isn't actually a brother, will be a device to bring Sam and Dean closer to being Samn'Dean again, considering all the complaints fans have been having about the loss of the brother-interaction. *shrugs* I hope they don't screw it up - there are so many more ways a long-lost sibling plot can go wrong than right.

I'm pretty much with you actually. I can't see him really turning out to be their brother, or if he is I can't see him sticking around. Even the episode title (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark) kind of suggests they know how ridiculous it would be to bring in another Winchester now.

I'm going with it being something supernatural (John having an illegitimate son? Do not want. Unless he's going to turn out to be Dean's long lost clone... and answer occasionally to X5-494 *g*). I'm just hoping they aren't going to go too far down the Buffy route. I never did like Dawn >_>

I love the show so much that I'm pretty much happy with anything. But it really can't become the Winchester Trio. He's either evil or will die. That's the only way it can go, within the story. Right?

I never got into BtVS until it was in reruns. And I never saw it in order until I borrowed the DVDs, after having seen a smattering of episodes from all the seasons.

I did like Dawn, but I think that's because I saw later episodes before her introduction. If I'd watched it in order, I would probably have been annoyed, if not angry.

I'm so glad you love the show! You're one of my favourite writers in the fandom, and there's been so much discontent going around my flist, while I just sit back and love the show with my usual enthusiasm. :)

I totally agree; my first thought when I read the spoiler was: That kid is a goner. I doubt it is an angelic/demonic plot, simply because they've done that too recently, that morphing of reality, and ... I think it was Kripke who said something about being fascinated by the impact their 'father's secret life' will have on them. But yeah, evil, dead or freaked out and run away into oblivion are the only ways I see this going.

I've seen those unhappy posts and I just don't understand. I'm easy when it comes to entertainment. Give me characters I like and stories that are interesting, and I'm golden.

So, John had a secret life? I'm sure he didn't give up women when Mary died, but he never loved again. Also, why would he have sex without protection?

God (and maybe Azazel) only knows the whys and wherefores of this plotline, so we'll just have to wait and find out like good little civilians.

John still wore his wedding ring, yes, and I do agree that emotionally, if not physically, he was always a one-woman man. I lol'd at the protection comment. Maybe he was drunk? There certainly are enough undertones of abuse of alcohol in the family for me to accept that.

I just ... I can't see John having a whole 'secret life' with another family and whatnot, it just does not compute, especially seeing as how he was traveling around with two young boys - how often could he have left them alone? There was maybe, what? Two or three years after Sam went to college that he would have more freedom in?

Nah, I'm thinking drunken one night stand or some such thing.

I feel like it's too soon for them to do another angelic-plot, so I don't think it's a dream/Smith&Wesson kind of a deal. But whatever happens, given Kripke & Ko's familiarity with fans, and the episode title, I'm certain that the brother will not stick around.

I'm hoping you're right, and believe me, I've run the scenarios through my head.

My only other concern is, the kid sticks around peripheraly, and when the J's don't get their contracts met for season six? The kid comes back to fight monsters with Castiel, after Dean and Sam are killed in a bloody season five finale.

Maybe a grateful woman, and he was just so worn out, and then he left town with his boys, and she never could find him again to let him know he had a kid?

Maybe he'll be possessed and then when Sam exorcises him, the body is dead.

That could work. In fact, that'd be really interesting and angsty and potentially beneficial.

I wonder if there'll be *something* in this whole experience that'll convince Sam that the whole blood-drinking thing is wrong, 'cause that has got to happen by season's end, surely? I hope?

Things I'd (personally) like to see by season's end:
-Dean find out about the blood drinking
-Sam confronted re: blood
-Ruby's motivation, finally, and hopefully EVIL (that would be more interesting to me than her being in twoo wuv or something), or dead (less interesting than evil.)
-Chuck, more of
-a better understanding of Zachariah, and, larger, the whole Heavenly host, so to speak

And since there are only a few episodes left this season, I have to hope that this episode will be more than a throw-away, y'know?

The network might be blind, but surely Kripke & Ko (emphasis here on Ko) knows that 95% of the fandom wouldn't watch that. They're well aware that the Js are why people watch, and if they can't convince them to stick around, the show won't last a season. I could see Ostroff/CW being that cynical, but I can't see Kripke purposefully writing in a character for that purpose.

Hmm... what about a kid who was saved by John Winchester eons ago and just sort of latched onto him as a father figure (he becomes so obsessed he really starts believing he's John's) and did all he could to sort of train to be a hunter and live up to the Winchester name.

But of course, he really is not good enough and he ends up dead by Ruby's hand cuz he's interfering with her agenda.

You really think John would have told Dean something like that? Nuh, uh.

He didn't have a whole secret life, he visited the kid and did normal fatherly things with him. He left Dean and Sam on their own so often, it fits. They didn't know about Ellen or his lock box either. This is all really terrible of him, of course.

Hmm... yeah I'm really hoping that it's not angel- trickster- demon possession- shapeshifter- related. I would love to see something new.

Then again, I think I'll just be very happy for them to be back. :)

Because it's also his kid, and he gets to have a nice little break from hunting sometimes and pretend he's a relatively normal father. It's unfair, but totally him.
