John knows the ending won’t be happy. He’s known that since he watched his wife die. Since he raised his sons as killers. Since he watched Mary burn and scream over and over for two decades and counting.

No—the ending could not be happy. Only bittersweet, since she isn’t there to enjoy it with him.

Dean knows the ending won’t be happy. He’s known it since Jessica and all of Sam’s dreams died. He’s known forever that he’d die for Sam, and known even longer that’s the only way he’ll let himself go.

His ending won’t be happy and he’s counting how many times Death’s passed him by. He knows one day it won’t, and he knows Sam will never, ever leave him behind. 

Dean won’t let him. 

And dying together or dying first is the only ending he’ll let come to pass.

Sam knows deep inside, where the visions and telekinesis come from, that their ending will be nowhere near the realm of happy.

He’s yet to tell Dean.

It’s not like Dean doesn’t know already.

Poor, angsty boys, but I believe in their train of thought. Much as I want a happy ending for them, I have great difficulty seeing it. Their lives are too dangerous, and it's hard to picture a day when they can walk away and just leave everything behind. Someone or something is bound to follow and finish them off.

Now I'm sad. :(
