Supernatural canon query

Is it canon somewhere that the Winchesters used fake names while the boys were in school?  I can't remember for sure if that's a fanon thing, or I may have just made that up myself.

I don't remember it being canon, so I'd say it's fanon. :)

They definitely use their real names in "After School Special."

Besides After School Special, there's the school record for Sam that Det. Ballard refers to in Usual Suspects. Seems like John kept the boys in school under their own names in canon.

Well, that's annoying. Do you think it'd be too jarring if I use a fake last name for them? It's not that central to the plot and I could probably rearrange a few things, but I really like the drabble as is.

I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time they had a fake last name in fic. :-) Given their background and the constant moving around a fake name here and there seems reasonable enough to me.
