I dropped forms off at the grad school yesterday and the lady informed me that they're working to deal with the problem in the department, which is a stock phrase, but there was something about the way she said it - she's actually angry about the situation, just like everyone I've spoken to in person has been.

So I'm hopeful that there are some repercussions for my ex-advisor.
