Rose - "Sleeping Beauty" poem

This is another retelling of "Sleeping Beauty," but in poem form.

I am a rose. 
Huh. How odd.
What are you? 

The princess twirls around in his arms,
Clothed in satin and velvet.
Her hair shimmers gold and her dress is crimson red.
Broadly she smiles, enthralled in his eyes,
And he dips and whirls her, grinning in return.

The witch, the evil fairy, the villain of the story— 
She glowers from the shadows.
She is not defeated yet.

I am a rose. 
I have not yet wilted. 
And I shall not fade into anonymity. 
Do not forget me. 
I have not forgotten you. 

The crown on her head sparkles,
Along with the happiness in her hazel eyes.
The prince whispers in her ear and her laughter
Rings out, loud and joyous.
The king and queen, her parents, share a glance.
The queen smiles and the king nods;
Together, they rise and stride to the dance floor.

Once upon a time, they were young lovers, too. 
Ages and ages ago, when the world wasn’t so hard,
The then-prince took her hand and kissed her
And asked only for her love.
She laughed with joy and pulled him close;
There were no dragons to slay, no evils to defeat—
Only a wedding to plan.
And as they dance, they wish their daughter’s tale had been so easy. 

I am a rose. 
Feed me legends and myths;
Share with me the glory of the sky.
I cannot move from this bed, 
Surrounded by brothers and sisters and children,
I cannot walk the earth, cannot see beyond the walls—
I can feel the wind, and that is not enough at all. 

And she watches, filled with wickedness and hate.
And she watches, a smile carved upon her face.
And she watches, her midnight cloak pulled tight—
She watches, laughter welling, as they dance.

A wedding is planned this night. 
A lifetime of happiness and love stretches before them,
The young royals, a lifetime insured by the defeat of the curse.

Defeat? What defeat? 
Evil is never defeated, merely postponed. 
Don’t you know the story you’re telling me? 

From the shadows, her eyes glint.
