She tries to scream, but her voice is gone, traded away for the legs now forming in place of her tail. She’s never felt such pain, so deep inside; her body is shifting, organs rearranging, and only once the pain is gone does she realize she can’t breathe anymore. She has to reach the surface, but she can’t swim in this changed body—nothing feels right.
As Sebastian and Flounder help her upwards, she wishes she had her voice, so she could beg the sea witch to change her back.
But then she’s looking at the sky and she inhales, and it’s so different… so fascinating. The water is cold on her new skin and she’s so tired, but maybe—she stares at the sky as Flounder and Sebastian tow her to shore. It’s never been so beautiful. She shivers and her ta—legs ache. She breathes, inhaling salty freedom.

Notes: another that is months old. I think it was originally supposed to be a “Born Under A Bad Sign” fic.
His hands tremble, shudder and shake, fingers clumsy on the gun. His eyes burn, inside and out, ache with knowledge, and the fear that comes with it.
What am I? What am I supposed to do—what can I do?
Who will stand with me when the time comes and I can no longer back away?
When John Winchester learned the truth, he realized he had never before felt true despair. He’d never felt so hopeless, so lost, not even just after November.
Death is just another adventure, his long-dead baby brother whispers in his ear. Wait, Johnny. The play isn’t ready yet. Patience.
Mary never meant for Sam—or Dean—to get her curse.
Of course, Mary never meant a lot of things. And in the end, what was meant… just doesn’t matter. Only what happened does.
She slumps in Hell’s coldest corner, skin slick with sweat and stained with blood, ignored by the fire, wishing that she had known sooner. Because maybe, just maybe, then she could have saved her sons.
Then again, maybe not.
It whispers in the darkest corners of his mind.
You’re mine. No matter what else comes, know that—you’re mine. You have belonged to me since before your first breath.
He can’t ignore it, shut off its voice, turn away from its words. He can’t pretend it’s not there, because it’s everywhere he looks, everything he hears.
You’ll join me, when the time comes. You’ll not be able to stop. I can swear to that.
Every day, every second, and he starts listening more and more. He can’t help it. The words twist around, in, deep into his blood and bone, seep into his soul.
His hands tremble, shudder and shake, clumsy on the gun, and his brother begs, eyes terrified.
Save me. This is the only way.
Save me, please.
Dean… save me.
Mary never meant for this. When she sees John in Hell—a deal’s a deal—she clings to him, whispering for absolution.
He gives it freely, and asks for his own.
Stand with me, he says.
His brother raises the gun.
Dean, he laughs. You could never kill me.
There are tears on Dean’s face, and he no longer points the gun at Sam.

He believes her, the fool. Both of them think she’s helping out of some plan for the greater good.
She was human once, yes. And she hated it. Why else would she have given herself to Kaliel? It was the best decision she ever made, selling her humanity for power, and she has never looked back.
But Kaliel was weak, could not see the bigger picture beyond gaining human souls.
Azazel and his whore, the crossroad’s bitch, did, though. So they created Sam, born of humans.
Humans are weak creatures in body, with malleable and breakable flesh. But their souls, their wills…
Sam will lead. To save his brother from Satan, he will have no other option. And she will be there, his guide. She will be there, favored above all but Dean.
Azazel, his whore, and Kaliel all failed because they underestimated the brothers. But she, once-human and self-named, understands them. Of all her numerous mistakes over the centuries, underestimating the Winchesters will never be one of them.
Neither of them fully trusts her, she knows. They both think they’re using her, but she is using them for her own ends.
She will never rule an empire or command an army, but being an advisor to the king is more than enough. Azazel and Kaliel both reached too far, too high. Satan will suffer no rivals, and he hungers for Dean’s soul.
So she will deliver Dean to Satan’s feet and watch Sam rip the world apart. She will follow him down, will help him reclaim Dean, and stand at his side under the new dawn.
She has everything planned, every possibility prepared for, and she is ready.
Yes… Azazel and the rest underestimated the brothers. But she knows them, and that is a mistake she will not make.
