#1: You know, we've been told, repeatedly, that it's all about Sam. Usually by demons. This, that the YED came for Mary instead of Sam, and just decided to play a little game with the infant... delicious.
#2: Yes. This is Sam. Or at least this is easy to see for Sam. It was there in No Rest For The Wicked. Again, you manage to combine words and a photo to create an effect neither alone could have managed.
