You can't even excuse that by calling it a typo the way you sometimes can for things like "it's" vs. "its", or the infamous "your"/"you're".
But my personal favourite 'type' of bad writing is the one committed by people who try SO HARD to be all intelligent and lyrical and use words most of us have never encountered outside of a poetry book... in all the wrong ways. The wrong placement of the word 'lissome' can really ruin a sex scene.
And LOSE vs LOOSE; both can be very powerful words when used correctly in the appropriate context, and very, VERY wrong to read when the other is meant.
Forgive, yes. I get why it happens, and I definitely live in a glass house myself, when it comes to typos. *g* But damn, do they throw me out of the story when I see them. Most times, I don't want to be thrown out though, so I keep reading.
I know it’s probably too much to ask for the general fanfic populace (or people in general) to learn the distinctions of your/you’re to/too its/it’s, and in rare cases the latter two could be the result of a mere typo.
(And I've long ago given up hope on just about anyone using much/many and less/fewer correctly. I'd be happy if I simply never had to see another sign reading "Ladie's" or another card addressed to "The Smith's")
However, there are only so many times I can read “quiet” instead of “quite” (again, possible exception for typo there - but still!); and OMIGOSH “descent” in place of “decent”??? Those two don’t even have the same beginning vowel sounds! (like “conscious” and “conscience” do)
Also, I once read a story where the author referred to a person on "death roll"
Out of curiosity, how stupid would you think one would have to be to type “anit” for “ain’t”? I mean, I know the latter isn’t correct grammar, but the other doesn’t even exist in the English language! Did they even bother to hit spellcheck on this thing?
And from the same author, "destroying a mine” is a FAR different thing than “destroying a mind”
I just finished watching some Doctor Who episodes I call The Steven Moffat Experience. All the episodes so far written by Steven Moffat, who is widely considered the best writer for the series. They're frankly freaking fantastic.

The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances (2-parter) Tracking a mysterious missile through time, the Doctor and Rose arrive at the height of the London Blitz. How can a dead boy rise again? What is behind the mysterious virus converting ordinary people into gasmask zombies? And why do they echo the Empty Child's haunting question: "Are you my mummy?"
Meanwhile, the Doctor and Rose are joined on their travels by the lethally charming bisexual Captain Jack Harkness, a rogue Time Agent posing as an American officer.
The Girl in the Fireplace The Doctor, Rose, and Mickey land on a 51st century spaceship, but find it deserted and filled with portals to moments in the life of Reinette Poisson, better known as Madame de Pompadour. From childhood to adulthood, the future mistress of Louis XV is stalked by clockwork droids and rescued by her hero, the Doctor. What connection can the mysterious mechanical men have to an 18th century noblewoman?
Blink The year is 2007. Ever since Sally Sparrow visited Wester Drumlins House, people around her have been vanishing. Why is she receiving messages from a man in 1959 called the Doctor and his companion Martha? Did that statue move?
Beware the Weeping Angels, and whatever you do, don't blink.
Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead (2-parter) The Doctor and Donna travel to the Library: a planet covered by the hugest library in existence. Why is it empty and why do the shadows keep moving? An archaeological expedition led by Professor River Song arrives to shed some light on things. Professor Song has adventured with the Doctor many times.... though he has never met her before in his life.
What is CAL? Who is the little girl who watches their every move from a seemingly normal suburban home? Count the shadows, the Vashta Nerada are hungry.
