So, Joe Flanigan(John Sheppard from "Stargate: Atlantis") is in this made for TV-movie thing, Danielle Steel's Family Album, right?  And he plays Lionel Thayer, the gay son.  (I guessed that was coming, by the way.  Way to be obvious, director/writer person.)

But there's no kissing.  Barely even any touching.  There's heterosexual couples making out all over the place, and Lionel can't even hold hands with his lover.  I realize, of course, that the movie was made in 1994(and Joe is adorable), but still.  It was annoying.

I remember watching Dawson's Creek in my youth (don't judge me!) and being equally frustrated with the lack of gay touching. Way to show gay isn't "normal". Idiots.

Maybe I watch the 'wrong' kind of shows, but I can't remember the last time I saw gay men kissing in a show that WASN'T penned by Russell T. Davis. The L Word doens't count; it's soap opera for guys. (I hereby put forth the theory that lesbianism will always be more socially acceptable than male homosexuality.)

Get a hold of some other UK Programmes, such as Coronation St or Emmerdale, our primetime soaps, shown at 7 and 7.30pm. I do beleive that Canada gets Corrie. There's plenty depictions of "Gay is OK!" in there. Just being shown as part of life and getting on with it. You're more likely to see male rather than female homosexuality on UK TV for some reason, though Emmerdale did have Zoe Tate for years.

I have this innate aversion to ITV daytime telly. It makes me run for the brain bleach. And the problem isn't so much that they never say "gay is OK" but that they never take that to its logical conclusion: kissing, nakedness, in-bed-together-ness. Even a fade-to-black-wake-up-in-pyjamas would be less hypocritical than mere hand-holding.

It's quite good. I've gone off Danielle Steel nowadays, I find her works too ... sweet. But I love her earlier works, including 'Family Album'. The movie differs quite a lot from the book unfortunately.

Watch the tv movie 'Consenting Adults', based on the novel by Laura Hobson, that I saw back in my mid-teens... gawdawful long time ago. Must have been about 24-25 years ago (?!!)...the gay lovers hold hands. Granted, the movie/novel is mostly about the parents and how they cope with the revelation of their son's coming out, especially the mother; but still. *frowns*

If you like costume dramas, try 'Maurice', with Hugh Grant, James Wilby, and Rupert Graves. There's kissing, at least, and a much better excuse for not being graphic, considering the time period. (This was before Hugh fell into his romantic comedy stereotyped roles-he's good. The movie's not without fault, but overall it's well done.)

I saw that a few months before I saw Hugh playing someone in a DS telefilm who tried to or did rape his sister, played by Mia Sara.(Why are all my fandoms incesty?)

It was a really good story, give it another go.

That's good. Canon slash, you know. For reference, Torchwood Series 1 is set between Doctor Who Series 2 and 3, and Torchwood Series 2 is set between Doctor Who Series 3 and 4.
