Wow, awesome ep. So now Dean knows one of the truths about Sam. Will he tell him? Does he know that Sam knows? What will he find at the house that Castiel sent him to? I cannot wait another week! I can't believe they gave us so much of the back story. Poor John!! So YED killed John, then brought him back to life. Then John's son ends up killing YED. I just love that. Poor Dean, meeting his grandparents and seeing them get killed. Seeing his Mom do what she did. I wonder if that was why when she was a ghost in the house she looked at him so strangely. Was it because she recognized him as an adult? Obviously now we know why she apologized to Sam. Rambling here, brain on overload!

I think Dean might blame himself (because, well, he's DEAN. He feels guilty for breathing, for God's sake) but I'm so glad that the show didn't blame him for it. That's just too cruel to do to a guy whose sole reason for not putting a bullet in his brain is his family.

I loved the episode. So much great information. I do have to disagree with you about Dean causing it all. Castiel's whole point was that no matter what Dean did, the end was going to be the same. Dean may have changed the how, but he didn't change where it would all end up.

And it had to start somewhere: Dean only went back because he was a hunter with the particular history his family had. So Azazel had to have started it first, for Dean to have become who he is, and then go back. (For example, perhaps pre-Dean, Azazel, who was in the town and who in my opinion would have never left a hunter family alone, paid them a visit to play and saw Mary that way).
