And I honestly believe Dean COULD have had that free ride anywhere, four years earlier than Sam, leaving him vulnerable and alone during his teen years.

Dean would never have done this, would never have left the family he kept together more than anyone, even if it consciously cost him his chance to break free, cost that unnoticed but blazing intellect of his its turn to dance in the sun instead of forever make sure it lay ignored.

Because, Winchester family comes first. Especially if your own sense of self-worth is zero, and Sammy Must Be Protected At All Costs.

I love each and every one of them, particularly the last three, particularly #5.

It's sometimes annoying that Sam getting all the exposition talk makes Dean look less bright, about things he spends his life hunting. Whereas in "In My Time of Dying", he could rattle off a full definition of astral projection with synonyms.

Castiel is sooo running up the ranks on that show, for me at least, and I can NOT get over him. He's almost beating Dean out of my number one spot somehow. I think it's the mystery/innocentness vibe I get from him. He's just so .. intriguing to me.
