The one who's so like his parents winds up being mostly ignored for his dependability as a John-in-training and substitute Mary while the other one, his own little man from the start, is given the attention by a total of three people for his formative years in relays.
After all, Sammy needs the attention, Sammy needs the love, Sammy is the perplexing one. Dean is the older, does what we/I need him to do. Dean can be counted on so he doesn't need to be watched, worried over, thought about since he's doing such a good job I don't even have to parent my own children for the most part.
Good thing hunters don't have soirees. We know who would have had to plan and host the thing.
