Laundry rooms are common, basements and cellars are basically only in houses if you ask one be put in when you have it made.

My dad says that we don't really have the ground for it in New Mexico and he thinks it is the same in Arizona.

I'm pretty sure because whenever there's rain, they flood-- the ground here can't absorb rainwater very quickly, and when it does rain (like through most nights in August), it tends to *pour*. (I'm in Phoenix, but I live in an apartment, so haven't actually had to face this question personally.)

So, it's pretty much like here, just different. *hee* We don't have them because it rains all the time so they'd flood, no matter how quickly the ground absorbs water.
