He remembers the thunder that resounded in the deep, that first moment he saw Dean Winchester, covered in blood and bathed in screams, razor in hand and eyes blacker than eternity.

Standing here, now, watching Dean wield Michael's sword, he hears thunder again. His body resounds with it.

Lightning comes alongside Lucifer, wearing Sam, and Castiel hurries to Dean.

Sam closed his eyes, counted to ten, opened them and spit into the sink. Counting to ten in French, now, he rinsed his mouth, spit again, and turned to face the angel. "Of course," he said. "What's up?"

Castiel, as always, looked slightly mystified at the ways of humans. His gaze went from Sam's eyes to the toothbrush now resting on the rim of the sink to the cup and finally back to Sam's. "Would Dean prefer if my vessel were female?"

Sam blinked. "Come again?"

Quietly, Castiel repeated, "Would Dean prefer if my vessel were female?"

Sam canted his head to the side, considering for a moment. He counted to twenty in Latin before saying, "I honestly don't think it matters."

Hesitantly, a new look for Castiel, he asked, "That is the truth?"

"Yeah," Sam said, nodding.

Castiel smiled. "Very well," he said and vanished.

Sam sighed, flipped off the light, and went to bed.

I loved the first and the last. Your writing is always a reminder of just how much a few words can carry.

I've always wondered about what Castiel thought of Dean, that first time, because yeah, he was probably terrifying.

Sorry. I think the direction of the one-way Dean/Castiel went over my head. I interpreted the direction as Castiel -> Dean, and Sam's answer as intentionally ambiguous: it isn't his vessel's sex that's the determinant, but Sam isn't saying what he guesses, which is that Dean doesn't see Castiel that way. And if Sam's that ambiguous, it's because telling an angel he hasn't got a chance is going to hurt. But Sam's chosen to hurt innocent things before, so perhaps breaking an angel's heart is something he deserves to have to do.

Yeah, if I have to take a paragraph to explain it, and I may have been exactly wrong anyway... sorry.

Although I'd really like to see a continuation of sorts (where Castiel follows through on the realization that Dean doesn't care if he's female, feeling confident to make a move), this was powerful enough to be a stand alone as well.

I think this Charmed fic is very close to what might happen, if, y'know, Wyatt had massacred a few less people. "Lol" is an inappropriate addendum to that comment, but that's what I was thinking (lol).
