Between the two of them, they've broken every law involving weapons or theft. Neal thinks he's the better twin, though, because he's never killed.

Bryce says he is, because he was only ever caught after he was dead.

Neal just gives him a pout for bringing up that horrible event again, and Bryce promises to take him to the Louvre later in the week.

Peter bursts in at that moment, Chuck on his heels, and they receive the same innocent expressions, blue eyes wide and pure as the sky.

Peter's glare is ferocious, but there's a hint of laughter at the corners of his mouth, and Chuck's babbling about Neal's successful and varied career. When Peter glances back at him, brow raised, Chuck quiets instantly.

Bryce huffs a small laugh and Neal ducks his head, smothering a grin. There won't be any Louvre in the near future, but they will sneak out to the Metropolitan Museum of Art later, while Chuck (and possibly Casey) distract Peter, and for the first time in a long time, they'll actually act like the brothers they used to be, back when they only played at being dangerous and Neal dreamed of being famous and Bryce thought about saving the world.

A week later, the shell splinters and a tiny little girl with fluttery wings curls up in Sam's hands, fitting snugly in his palms.

He names her Gabriella and Castiel gives him a sweet smile. Dean just says, askin' for trouble, dude.

And the little girl, Gabriella Marie, blinks her dark brown eyes at him and he thinks, it was all worth it.

Wyatt is a terrible liar. He always has been. If Dad and the aunts hadn't been in shock after Mom's death, they would have seen what Chris saw because Wyatt wasn't trying to hide it. He didn't know how, and he didn't think he had to.

He is, after all, the Twice-Blessed Heir of Magic. The best and the greatest, more powerful than the Source. More powerful than the Charmed Ones.

And he can't lie for shit. Not when he was evil, and not now that he's good. Chris has two lifetimes of memories playing in his head, and in both worlds, some things are the same: Chris is Wyatt's favorite and Wyatt can't lie.

Chris spent months in the past and it was only a vision quest that finally gave him away. Wyatt wasn't even there for five minutes before he let something slip.

In all honesty, Chris still has trouble believing Wyatt went evil. Of the two of them, it should have been him, the secretive and jealous little brother. Dad wouldn't've been caught off-guard then. That, he and the aunts might have seen coming.

But no. It was Wyatt, the great and powerful Wyatt, who brought dragons to life and couldn't lie in the least.

And maybe he shouldn't be proud of it, but lying is the one thing he's always been better at than Wyatt.

"Sammy, shoot me in the heart," Dad gasps, straining to keep the demon at bay. "Kill me, son."

Blinking tears away, Sam stands and takes aim. He doesn't want to, can barely do it, but—

"Now, Sam!"

He pulls the trigger.

(He rushes Dean to the nearest hospital. While Dean's in emergency surgery, Sam returns to the cabin for the clean-up.

It's a month before Dean's well enough to walk out under his own power.

And Sam feels guilty for feeling relief that Dean doesn't remember the last week leading up to that night. He still thinks Dad is out there, hunting the demon. Sam isn't sure how to tell him that both are gone for good.

Crowley never likes visiting the workroom. He's far too sophisticated for Alistair's methods. He's a businessman, after all. And Alistair's insane. Bloody insane, pardon the pun.

But Alistair's pupil, his fair-haired boy, his darling pet… Dean Winchester, the Righteous Man, breaker of the First Seal.

Alistair's off visiting with Lucifer, recently released from his cage by Dean's brother, soon to become the unlucky vessel of the MorningStar. And Dean is here, safe in Hell, so there will be no vessel for Michael, unless he settles for plans B through Z.

"Darling," Crowley calls, striving to ignore the poor bastards strung up all over the place, in various stages of torture. Dean truly is a master. He's already surpassed Alistair in skill and it won't be long until he's better than even the Lord of Hell.

"Be right with you," Dean says, bent over a sobbing soul, bloody blade in hand.

Crowley doesn't know if Dean will want to aid him in derailing Lucifer's plan. It may in fact be the most foolish thing he's ever done, either the overthrow idea itself or asking Dean to join him.

But with Dean's help…

Dean turns to face Crowley, smirking. "It's a stupid fuckin' plan, dude," he says, crossing his arms across his chest as he leans against the wall. "And if you help me keep Sammy out of Lucifer's grasp, I'll help you come up with somethin' that might actually work."

Crowley considers that for a moment, watching Dean watch him.

"Alright then," he says. "Let's seal the deal."

Dean's smile is as sharp as the razor dangling from his fingers, and he bites down hard before Crowley pulls away. "Sealed by blood," he murmurs against Crowley's mouth. "We got work to do."

I get irked at the whole "Twice Blessed" thing over Wyatt. I read a fic the other day where Victor, the grandfather, pointed out to Chris that the whole "son of a Whitelighter and a Charmed One-isn't that you, too?" Wyatt didn't earn those powers, he just happened to win the genetic lottery-if by being more magically powerful one is considered to win. If Chris is jealous, maybe it's to do with being disregarded all the time!

Chris has the same kind of basic powers that Prue, Piper and Phoebe (and Paige) started out with, and they were considered quite strong individually. HOW you use your strength matters just as much as how much strength you have, and I don't mean just in the moralistic sense. (Laser vs sledgehammer)

I think Chris needs to be reminded that being a good liar-in and of itself not really a good thing, lol-does take smarts, confidence, discretion, and self-control. ;D Plus, look at how hard it's got to be to bear the burden of those double memories, and not let anyone know, or let it affect his reactions to people too much-that would take strength!

I love that he's Wyatt's favorite, any reality. :D

I've never understood the Twice Blessed thing. Leo is an Elder when Chris is conceived; Elders are more powerful than whitelighters. Therefore (logically!) shouldn't Chris be more powerful than Wyatt?

I figure it's just the whole prophecy thing, and that maybe Chris is Fate's way of throwing in a wildcard.

I may have a thing for older brothers being completely wrapped up in their younger brothers. Maybe.

I wonder if some of the blame can't be laid at the feet of the Halliwell matriarchy? For how many generations, they've only had girls; and from what I've seen, the fathers are rather like footnotes. Piper and Leo had to work hard and fight to be allowed to marry, and then finally had their baby...and he's practically Jesus, lol. All the more amazing because, gosh, we Halliwells just don't have boys! Because we did, and he's half-witch/half-whitelighter and has lots of powers, he's the BESTEST THING EVUH! ~cue the angelic chorus

...and unexpectedly, shortly after, here comes another one. Like oh, guess it wasn't a fluke then. Er. Hi, kid! Say, you got normal witch powers, then? Yep, you're special, too. Really! ~awkward smile

While I'm going through the Charmed tag, I noticed this and thought I'd comment. The way I understand it (and this is mostly just fanwanking on my part), it wasn't necessarily Leo's influence that made Wyatt so powerful, but the fact he was prophesied and born on supposedly the most important magical day. Plus, if you remember, this was also around the time Cole was trying to get Phoebe knocked up. Piper ate one of his power-laced fertility chocolates or whatever before conceiving Wyatt, so maybe that played into matters as well?

And as for the Whitelighter/Elder thing, I feel like "Elder" is a title rather than a magical species. I mean, Elders are basically just promoted Whitelighters, right? So Chris wouldn't have an Elder's powers just because he was born to one. Whitelighter powers, yes, but he would have to be promoted himself to be given an Elder's abilities. I think. Maybe.

Before it got jossed to hell and back, my favorite pet theory was that Chris was actually a reincarnation of Prue: they both have primary powers of telekinesis, they have very similar personalities (all work all the time, driven, absolutely intolerant of anything that threatens their family, major abandonment/Daddy issues), and they even look alike (they're the only ones in the family with green eyes, for example). It would also make sense that Chris was Piper's son and not Phoebe's or Paige's, as Prue was always closest to Piper, too. One of these days I'm going to revisit that theory and turn it into a fic. Probably. I'm just...not sure how yet.

I thought Elders were a step above whitelighters power-wise. They start out as whitelighters, but with the promotion comes a power-upgrade, though you're right - that might not transfer genetically.

The prophecy, I think, does explain Wyatt's specialness. And I'd actually totally forgotten about all of Cole's plans to impregnate Phoebe. I've never seen the whole show (I'm pretty sure the only full season I've seen is six... hmm, wonder why that is? *snickers*)

Prue reincarnated as Chris! Dude, I love that. Prue actually was my favorite of the sisters for awhile, though that's now Piper.

That's what I was trying to say, that Elder powers aren't genetic. Granted, there's really nothing in the show to support that, but there' nothing disproving it either, so... *cough*

I think it was just a great combination of thing that led to Wyatt being born so powerful: first born witch of a new generation (Prue was supposed to be the strongest of the sisters for the same reason), and of a Charmed One, no less; born on the Wiccan Sabbath or whatever they were calling Groundhog's Day; prophesied forever ago for whatever reason; Cole's laced candies; and maybe just a touch of Whitelighter special on the side. After all, if Whitelighter/witch hybrids were all that it took, Paige would be hella powerful, too.

It's also a good excuse for that stupidly powerful older sibling/less powerful but more resourceful younger sibling rivalry. One of many reasons why I think Wyatt and Buffy would clash like no one's business while Chris and Dawn could bond while bitching about being the jealous, time displaced younger siblings of a "chosen one." Okay, and so maybe I just want a crossover for Grams and Giles tea time. Sue me.

I <3 Prue. She could be a total bitch, but she was so fierce. Just like Chris. On both counts. ;) However, I do think Piper was always my favorite, from her mild-mannered doormat self in the earlier seasons to ass-kicking momma in the later ones.
