Prompt: DCU, Tim & Jason, no other choice
The kid is down on his knees, coughing up blood. The Joker (and of course it's the fucking Joker, it's always the fucking Joker) is laughing that goddamned mad scientist cackle that haunts Jason's nightmares and his waking moments, and Batman is out of town helping Dickie-boy with some catastrophe, so he's not here to swoop in and save this Robin like he didn't the last one.
The kid is coughing up blood, and this is one of those moments, Jason knows. The kind Alfred used to talk about, the kind that let you know who you are, hero or god-awful bastard. Good guy or monster. (Maybe, he thinks Alfred might say now, some people are both.)
The Joker has a crowbar and about two dozen goons. Jason has a shitload of guns and the will to use them.
The kid is coughing up blood, and Batman isn't here.
Jason takes aim at Joker first, shooting out his shoulder, and then turns his gun on the goons.
He will kill the Joker, but he'll do it with his bare hands, after he gets the kid some medical care. Jason'll be the last Robin the Joker murders, cackling that goddamned laugh.

Prompt: Leverage; team; turns out everyone but Nate are actually mythological figures in disguise.
Notes: I looked up some myths to try and spread the pantheons around a little. Two might be very obscure; I don't want to give it away, so if you don't get 'em, just ask.
More notes: same 'verse as this
"Papa!" Parker called, running over to the slight brunet with bright blue eyes. Nate raised a brow as the man turned and scooped Parker into a massive hug, swinging her around with a laugh.
"Darling!" he replied, giving her a kiss on the forehead. "I'm gone for a few years and you grow up. Ach, you children."
"Gonna introduce us?" Hardison asked, sounding somewhere between jealous and annoyed.
The stranger (and 'Papa'? really?) smirked. Parker said, "This is my grandpa Hermes."
"Herman," he added quickly. "Call me Herman."
Hardison stiffened, trying to stifle a hiss. Sophie smiled elegantly and took 'Herman's hand. "Wonderful to meet you," she purred. "Parker's said nothing about you."
Eliot simply bared his teeth in what couldn't ever be called a smile.
Herman raised Sophie's hand to his lips and said, "Enchanted." He released her hand and met her eyes. "Didn't I once know you as Epona?"
Another smile, this one a slight degree above Arctic. Nate tried to remember if any of Sophie's identities had ever been 'Epona' and couldn't think of one.
"That would've been a very long time ago, Herman," Sophie said. She took his arm and turned them towards a table, saying, "Now, Herman, you're going to buy us all a drink and tell us why you left Parker in the American foster-care system if you are, in fact, her grandfather."
Nate shook his head, wondering if everyone else had gone mad as Hardison added, "And then you're gonna teach me a few tricks, y'hear, Herman? There's a spider I gotta skip a few levels of badass to impress."
Eliot cut in between Sophie and Herman, seeming much much larger for a moment. "Explanation better be good, too," he said, and it sounded just like a growl.
Herman threw a glance at Parker. She grinned and waved.
Nate wanted a whiskey, but his team would never let him have one, so he simply sat down at the table and waited for the world to make sense again.

Prompt: NCIS/Chuck, Tim/Bryce, Bryce fights like Ziva and teases like Tony and somehow seems to like Tim as much as Tim likes him
Gibbs' newest probie is named Bryce Larkin. He's as smart as Abby, flirts up a storm like Tony, and fights better than Ziva (which, honestly, Tim hadn't believed possible).
And he looks back at Tim when Tim stares at him. Tim ducked his head the first time he noticed Bryce watching him, but now it's as normal as Ziva messing up idioms, Abby being manic on caffeine, and Tony's attempts to embarrass Tim (oh, sorry, 'toughen up his sweet lil'probie hide').
Tim never made a move on Tony. He barely worked up the courage to ask Abby out, and that turned into a disaster, so he decided to not tempt fate with Tony. Even if he has been fantasizing about what could have been for years, it's better to wonder than to be the reason Team Gibbs fell apart.
Which it would, since even if Tony said yes and they had a good time, he's crazy-in-love with Gibbs and has this weird thing with Ziva, and—no. Even Abby would probably choose Tony over Tim, and Gibbs might very well rip Tim into pieces and scatter him in various spots. (Not that he'll ever make a move on Tony either. For whatever insane reason. Sometimes Tim wonders why Ducky hasn't smacked Gibbs upside the head and directed him towards Tony, but it's not Tim's place to ever say anything. Damnit.)
So, yeah. He never made a move on Tony. But Bryce Larkin is new. They all like him, and he's awesome to have on your side in your fight. And he won't be on the team for much longer, so Tim could squeeze under Rule 12.
And best of all? He not only doesn't mock Tim for being a geek, he's a geek, too. And he actually knows Klingon.
"You know," Bryce says as they're all packing up to go home. He sits on the edge of Tim's desk and grins at him. "If you let me take you out to dinner, Tim, I could teach you a few grammar rules for Klingon. Some vocab, too."
Tim expects something out of Tony for that, a 'geek' cough or a smartass remark, but instead he's quiet. Tim glances over quickly, and there's something sad on Tony's face before he wipes it away for a grin as bright as Bryce's.
"You have intentions on Timmy's virtue?" he asks. "Better talk to Abby first."
But Bryce just keeps looking at Tim. "I asked Tim," he says calmly.
And Tim says, "Okay, yeah, great."
It's the best night of his life so far, and he can't wait till their next date.

I wish you were here. Wish things had gone better. Wish I could've...
I should've saved you. It was all my fault. And yours. Most of it was your fault, too.
Chuck stops writing. Throws the pen down and crumples the paper.
Thinks, fuck you, Bryce from Connecticut. if that's really where you were from.
Ellie calls him to supper; Awesome made some awesome pizza.
He yells back that he'll be right there, and he smoothes out the paper, picks up the pen.
We could've been great. The best team that ever was.
Me and you, Chuck&Bryce, unbeatable and unstoppable, saving the world.
Even when I hated you, I dreamed about you. You and me, passing codes in Klingon and wowing everybody. And after I got the intersect…
You the superspy and me your secret weapon. We could've been something.
You and me, me and you, the best and brightest.
Fuck you, Bryce.
He drops the pen, shreds the paper, and goes to dinner.
Thinks in Klingon, I miss you.

Prompt: Winchesters. Any sort of outsider POV (double kudos if it's about dangerous!Winchesters )
They come in the fall, but not always. Mama says to stay out of their way, that their eyes are sharp and dangerous. Mama says that they're dangerous but she won't ever turn them away.
Was their land first, she says, long long ago, when even my grandma wadn't nothin'.
They come in the fall with an ancient beast as their ride, and ancient weapons that roar. They come in the fall and take the furthest cabin and keep to themselves, those dangerous men with sharp eyes.
She watches them, when she can. Curious, defiant. They're unlike anyone she's ever known, here in the wilds. Untouched land, away from the sores of the cities, away from the dissolution of civilization.
Was their land, Mama says, My grandma called it South Dakota, but that was ages ago, back before the War. Protected land. Keeps us safe, even now. And them. They keep us safe, too.
They come in the fall, right before the cold time, and leave when the plants start to bloom again. They haven't changed in the fifteen years since she first saw them; Mama says they haven't changed in all the years she's known them, either.
They don't age, and they always come back. In the fall, but not every fall. Mama says they travel the world in their ancient beast, with their roaring weapons and their sharp eyes, and that they'll do it forever.
Made a deal, Mama says. My grandma's grandpa said so. Made a deal back before the War. We stay on the land, and they come back, and in-between they wander, killin' monsters.
She never speaks to them. Only watches, wondering.
The taller one is bigger than anyone she's ever seen, even the men that pass through sometimes. And the shorter one (still bigger than any other man besides his companion) looks at her in her hiding spot sometimes, with a smirk that shows his teeth.
Dangerous. Beautiful.
Heroes, Mama says.

Date: 2011-02-09 03:02 pm (UTC)I like how you keep it simple but reflectively vivid. Also, I have to admit as I read I wasn't completely sure whether or not Jason was actually going to step in to save Tim. I liked that ambiguity leading to his final action in the end, keeping the reader guessing whether Jason is talking about helping just to debate his own demons or demonstrating why he is going to do it.
The use of back referencing words of wisdom from Alfred was a stroke of genius. Of course, Alfred would say something like that! He's probably said it to everyone Robin and Batman at one time or another. The fact Jason takes it to heart really says something about your interpretation of Jason, which I adore! ;D
Of course, now you have me pining for more. Is this a one time only drabble? Would you ever be interested in writing more along these lines, see where it takes Jason, Tim, or the entire batfamily? I'd read it if you do.
Well, even if you don't, thank you so much for sharing this short piece with us.

The Tim/Bryce I found surprisingly moving, since before reading it I went huh? with the pairing, but you did such a great job. Also don't usually read DCU but that was really great too
