Title: Don't ask me when I learned love
Fandom: Glee
Disclaimer: not my characters; title from Adrienne Rich
Warnings: takes place during senior year; spoilers for season 2
Pairings: post-Kurt/Blaine; Kurt/Karofsky
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 490
Point of view: third
Prompt: Glee, Kurt/Karofsky + Burt, meeting the parents (again)

"Dad," Kurt says while he takes apart an engine just for fun.

Burt looks up from the invoices; he knows that tone from experience. Kurt's going to ask for something he wants, something Burt really isn't going to like. "Yeah, kiddo?" he asks, already steeling himself.

"I—there's a boy," Kurt says, eyes flicking over to Burt before looking back down. "And I really like him, Dad. And I want him to come over and meet you."

Burt sets down his pen and turns in his chair. He stares at Kurt until Kurt looks up again. "A boy from school?" Burt asks. It's only been five months since Blaine and Kurt decided they'd be better as friends. Burt liked Blaine well enough. Probably more than whoever Kurt's about to name.

Kurt nods.

"It's not..." Burt tries not to let his distaste show. "Finn's friend with the mohawk, right?"

Kurt's entire body recoils. "Eww, no!" he says, shuddering. "Ugh. Puck's made massive strides in being a human, but I can't ever see myself dating him." He pauses, before musing, "He is gorgeous, though. Such a shame."

"Who is it, then, Kurt?" Burt asks.

"Well," Kurt stalls, "you have met him, Dad. A few times. And he's so much better than he used to be, and he really is a sweetheart when he's not panicking, and he's terrified that you're going to shoot him on sight."

Oh, shit. "No," Burt growls, hands clenching. "Not just no, but hell no." He tries to stay calm, he really does. "You are not dating that Karofsky boy, not ever."

"Um." Kurt looks away again, and he's clearly fighting his own temper to keep from saying something truly vicious. "We've been dating for three weeks, Dad."

Burt sags back against his chair. "He said he'd kill you, Kurt. You remember that? Chased you outta your own school for months." Seriously, how the hell did this happen? When did they even spend enough time together for this to happen? Burt knew he should've taken his flamethrower to that school, and strangled Karofsky when he had the chance.

"Dad," Kurt says softly, and he walks over to wrap his arms around Burt. "He's really been trying. He's so different now. A lot of what happened… well, he's come to terms with some things, and I want you to meet him as he is now. The boy his dad talked about in that meeting right before I left Dalton."

Burt looks up at him, at this man his son is growing into. "You really like him?"

Kurt smiles. "I really do, Dad."

Sighing, Burt stands and pulls his boy into a proper hug. "Bring him by on Saturday," Burt says. "I'll sit him down for a good talking to."

Kurt bounces in place and presses a quick kiss to Burt's cheek, before skipping back to the engine. He starts belting out that loud "Bad Romance" song and Burt can't help smiling.

Prompt: Glee, Kurt/Finn, Bear Hug

Finn and Dad meet him at the airport; they're waiting at the luggage carousel, talking about the previous night's football game. Kurt tries to sneak past them, but Dad says, "Ah, ah, kiddo," and Finn snakes out one his arms to grab him.

Kurt doesn't even fight it, just lets Finn reel him in and scoop him completely off the ground. "Yes, Finn," he mutters, patting his brother's back. "Glad to see you, too."

Once Finn releases him, Dad pulls him into a hug; Kurt hugs back, pressing a kiss to Dad's cheek.

"C'mon, let's beat the traffic," Dad says after Kurt points out his single bag of luggage and Finn snags it for him. "Carole and Mercedes've planned a massive party for you."

Kurt smiles, lightly shoving Finn to the side, and asking Dad what else is in store.

It is good to be home, take a breather, and just be.

Fandom: DCU
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: a mix of Under the Red Hood and the cartoons and what I've learned through cultural osmosis
Pairings: none
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 220
Point of view: third
Prompt: DCU, Jason Todd + the Bats, No matter what they say or do, he knows they'll never trust him completely. Whatever, it's not like he needs his family to trust him or anything.

Jason Todd was a killer. Red Hood had murdered with no remorse, and he'd do it again.

Batman did not kill. Robins didn't kill. Nightwing was his father's son, his teacher's pupil.

"One of these things is not like the other," Red Hood sing-songed, one gun pointed at the Riddler, the other at Nightwing. The replacement Robin kept shifting in place, like he was preparing for some move Red Hood learned while he was still in diapers. "One of these things just isn't the same."

Batman'd be there soon. He always saved Nightwing, back when he was Robin. He'd always saved the newest Robin, so far.

One of these things really wasn't like the others. It actually hurt, like a crowbar to the head. Like a countdown and a locked door.

Like knowing he could never kill again, and it wouldn't matter because he already had.

He lowered the guns. No one moved. Riddler was shaking in his shoes because everyone knew Red Hood was a killer. Not like the others. Not the same at all.

"Take him," Red Hood, turning his back on them all. "Lock him up for a night. Won't change a thing come morning."

"No," Nightwing called after him. "I suppose it won't."

Beneath the hood, Jason closed his eyes. It still hurt.

Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)/Firefly
Disclaimer: not my characters; title from Sara Teasdale
Warnings: spoilers for The Great Game; takes place half a year after Serenity
Pairings: implied Sherlock/John; Simon/Kaylee; post-Zoe/Wash
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 430
Point of view: third
Prompt: Sherlock (BBC)/Firefly, Sherlock + or / John, and Serenity's crew, Mal had no idea his latest cargo was smuggling one man's heart across the 'verse. This was déjà vu all over again.

Watson's quiet, keeps to himself, and saves Mal's life dockside, halfway to their destination.

"You're a gorram doctor?" Mal demands, while Watson shoves his shirt into the wound, grabs Mal's gun, and shoots the dirty bastards who ambushed them.

"Stay still, Captain," Watson tells him, barely looking up and still getting the ringleader between the eyes.

Zoe and Jayne show up then and Watson barks out orders, but Mal decides it's a nice time to black out.

0o0

Watson is a model passenger. The Tams could learn from him. Simon asks him questions over supper, and Watson answers civilly, drawing more from Simon than Mal thinks he realizes.

Jayne asks about the shooting. That, Watson neatly avoids, and Jayne ends up talking for ten minutes about his childhood home. By the time he catches on, supper is over and Watson thanks them all for the food, departing silently.

River watches him go. "What is it?" Simon asks, Kaylee leaning forward, all of them waiting.

River smiles and says, "His heart's big enough for everyone, and he'll keep it safe 'til they're together and two become one again."

Mal looks at Zoe, then back to River. "So, he's not a threat, then?"

Pushing back from the table, River shakes her head. "Not to us," she says, rising to her feet and spinning in place. "Not ever, unless we hurt his heart."

She stops suddenly, glancing around covertly before whispering, "Wanna hear a secret?"

"Yeah," Kaylee murmurs, leaning in.

River looks around one more time before telling them, "His heart couldn't be burnt, because it was never his alone."

Mal has no idea what that means. Going by their expressions, no one knows. Not that that's close to bein' new.

River dances her way out of the room. Mal shakes his head and leans back in his chair.

"At least we got another doc," Jayne says. "One that can even shoot."

Simon gives him a polite glare and sternly rises to his feet, following his sister. Kaylee's at his heels, taking his hand and murmuring something.

"What do you think?" Mal asks Zoe.

She ponders for a moment, rubbing a hand gently across her swelling belly. "I want to trust him," she finally says, slowly, like it's a confession. "And I believe River might have the right of it." She meets Mal's eyes. "He is a dangerous man, but not to us. At least, not at the moment."

"Yeah," Mal says. "That's what I think, too."

Hopefully, nothing else will go wrong before they reach Watson's destination.

(Knowing their luck, not gorram likely.)

Title
: Pegasus goes free, unmounted yet
Fandom: Animorphs
Disclaimer: not my characters; title from C. Day-Lewis
Warnings: spoilers for everything
Pairings: gennish
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 190
Point of view: third
Prompt: Animorphs, Rachel, wild at heart

Rachel's favorite daydream, one she runs out of time to tell Tobias, and knows Cassie and Jake would never understand (Marco might've) and Ax just wouldn't have the personal knowledge for comprehension, is that she's in bird morph and riding a storm.

She knows it's crazy. Knows it probably couldn't actually happen, that she'd be buffeted around and probably break a wing and fall and fall-

That's why it's a dream. That's why she pulls insane stunts and barrels her way through and laughs in the middle of battle, roaring as a bear or shrieking as a bird, giving herself fully to the bloodlust of a warrior who knows victory at any price.

She's not fighting for morals or honor, or in anger and hatred. She's not Cassie's reluctant soldier or Jake's weary general. She's a warrior finally given focus, given a war.

Rachel's fighting for her planet's freedom, and it's a storm inside her, wind and water lashing together into something beyond anyone's understanding, and she can only unleash it when she's out of her weak girl-shape, and she's an eagle, high in the sky, dreaming about a hurricane to ride.

The Glee fic were lovely but the other two...

"Pegasus goes free, unmounted yet" is gutwrenchingly perfect. Who hasn't dreams of just throwing themselves into a storm and having it be wild and free rather than just cold and damaging? For Rachel, storms must be a siren's call.

And I really, really, REALLY want more of "You were the wind and I the sea". Please? I love quietly competent Watson and this is such an awesome crossover.

Watson in space! You captured his utter BAMFness perfectly, though I can't help but wonder what Mal will think of his model passenger once he meets Sherlock. Is he going to meet Sherlock? It'd be a shame to deprive Sherlock of all the interesting things he could talk about with River...

Loved the Glee bear hug story as well, so cute!

Omg your icon, haha, HI THERE! :3

There's a fic on AO3 that's also a Sherlock/Firefly crossover, and River and Sherlock have a pretty interesting interaction in it. Here (http://archiveofourown.org/works/152892), if you're interested.

Enjoyed the Firefly/Sherlock. You did a great job with everyone's voice in that. Especially River's.

The Jason Todd and the Firefly/Sherlock ones were brilliant. I adore Jason's character (I love the fact that he's hurting under it all and nobody seems to care, it seems really in line with Winick's version of him) and Watson was such a badass (it was so cute, the way River describes him to the rest of the crew because -frankly- totally believable). I wouldn't mind seeing continuations of either comment_fic but they were awesome regardless.

Wonderful work~

I really enjoyed the Firefly/Sherlock crossover.

Any chance of expansion in that universe? I wouldn't be adverse to it.
