So, today I started writing the fic where Arthur&Eames rescue and adopt Harry Potter.  I have a list of things that change/don't change from version to version, and I've made a list of Harry's yearmates in canon (according to the HP wiki).  The thing is, should I even out the number students?  None of the houses has the same amount, and there are three more boys than girls overall.  So should I toss in a few OCs, just because?

Also, the part I wrote today is McGonagall's, but who should be the narrator for Eddie's sorting?  I can't decide.

If you have some awesome OCs in mind, through them in but don't feel pressured just to keep an gender balance. You can always have someone remark there are going to be some interesting dynamics in the House when then get older (more boys than girls/vice versa).

As for sorting - Snape? To show his thought process when he is faced with a student with whom he doesn't have a past? Or even Dumbledore - he's sad Harry never showed?

Weeeell, personally, I'd probably just use some of the underused characters floating around in Harry's year anyway. There's that Morag girl who, I think, we don't even know which house she's in. There's a lot of completely flat characters bouncing around the HP verse, just names that never got any personality. Why not use those and fill the cracks with OCs as necessary?

Slytherin, huh? Damn. I was sure she was Ravenclaw.

Anyway. Would you like for me stop confusing you? Because I can totally shut up, Honest... ;P

Oh, how I love that gorgeous, gorgeous brain of yours. Twins!

And the division makes sense too. Make it a teacher until they're out of the hall, a classmate until they go to bed and a roommate for the rest of the night. Sounds perfectly logical. And the PoVs are bound to be fascinating just because of who you picked...

Mhm. Okay. Deep breath...

How's this: It's been done before, but magic, Naming, it's kind of a convenient thing. Either the Hat or the list the teachers have could be spelled to reveal true names. That way, Eddie would be outed in front of the whole school, though, which would be way too much trouble for me personally to write. Alternately, someone (Snape, most likely) could make the connection about a missing Potter and a present kid no-one's ever heard of before. It's not rocket science. And if that is too trite, there's always Dumbles' all-knowing-ness, given to him by the magical powers of his beard, which is magical. Kind of like Sampson, only with facial hair.

Moving on.

As for Eddie's PoV, you don't want to write it? Don't. The parents can tell the backstory and a teacher (again, Snape would be convenient and is the only canon character to have ever proven to have any sort of observational skills)can be present for an interaction between the family at school.

If that leaves gaps, overheard conversations are a neat trick, as are eleven-year-olds who talk a bit too much out of school.

And if all else fails, you just gave the kid a magical snake. It's always around Eddie. It can talk. Duh!

Ah, I didn't mean let the Parseltongue give him away. I meant let the snake tell the story. It'd be an interesting PoV at any rate.

Muggleborns... I forgot about those. They'd make the name thing a bit hard to do. Can the Hat see people's complete memories? That could be your connection, then.

TH's eyes are... greyish blue? I'd go with blue.

I love the 'new trio' idea. You could do amazing things with that combination of characters.

Going with the traumatized kid amnesia, I'd give him nightmares. The stuff's gotta come out somehow, and if there's something telling in those dreams, it might give Eames a hint. Green light. Red eyes, that stuff. If he knows that Harry's missing assumed dead, he could make the leap.

Yeppers. Sounds good. I've always found the house designation iffy. Realistically, if the Hat sorts by people's temprament, there'd be imbalances. Big ones. But that's simply not how you run a school. Balanced groups, or nothing is going to work.

Your solution sounds sensible and workable.
