can I just say that I think it is awesome that (nearly) everyone here gets that hate-kissing someone against their will is totally sexual assault? Fandom so often has some bad days, but then they are instances like this, were this rag-tag conglomeration of people gives me hope for our society.
I don't think I would have such a nuanced, sensitive view to so many triggering topics if I never got involved into fandom and it just hit me yesterday when I wrote sleep-deprived long-winded meta on Kurt-Karofsky and the meaning of abuse/sexual assault that it's all you awesome people around here that made that possible *hug*
(basically this + conversations with friends I had recently about what fandom is just combined to give me all the feeels and you are the victim/benefactor of it^^)
I think part of the problem with seeing things as assault is all those movies where nothing happens between a 'couple' until the guy forcefully kisses the girl. She just needs to be shown what she wants, right? *headdesk*
Which, honestly, I think would be a huge turnoff, but whatever.
Am I wrong to be more creeped out by the cake topper scene and the winking than I was by the kiss itself?
Sure, the kiss was bad, but it didn't seem as unapologetic and malicious as Karofsky's subsequent actions. (Please feel free to educate me if I'm completely missing the point.)
I can see why Blaine wouldn't be as affected as Kurt by a forced kiss (I'm guessing there's no fear and powerlessness like there was for Kurt and no innocent hope like there was for Mia, just disappointment and humiliation?) and I can also see Kurt interpreting whatever Blaine says afterwards as a negation of his own experience and being mad and hurt about it. ... My god woman, you are awful, my chest is tight because of angst I haven't even read yet.
Blaine says afterwards as a negation of his own experience - do you mean of Blaine's experience or Kurt's?
And, yeah, what came after the kiss was definitely creepy; if Karofsky had just tried to pretend it never happened and completely ignored Kurt (or maybe kept the phsyical bullying at the same level), I think it would have been better for Kurt's mental state.
Okay, then, yeah: for Blaine, it was just a thing that happened, not a big deal at all, for a variety of reasons. But all Kurt sees are the similarities, so there's a bit of disagreement there, at a pretty inopportune time.
But, you know, Kurt’s kicking skills came into effect, so. *hee*
