The same thing happened to me. It was pretty bizarre to realize I wasn't reading many books at all any more. I've had to make a conscious effort to get back into reading books. It's very easy to slip into the fanfic world -- we know all the characters and have deep (!) relationships with them without having to get to know new people and relationships. I think fanfic sort of shortcuts to some of the important things we get from reading -- but it shorts out some of the other, at least equally, important things we can (and maybe need to) get from reading, such as seeing the world in a new light.
I find I don't read fantasy or science fiction in the quantities I used to read them in -- so fanfic is probably doing the job for me that they do or did. Although ill read a new Jasper Fforde or Christopher Moore in a flash!
