See, the thing is, I’ve basically had a headache since July. First I saw my neurologist, who sent me to my regular doctor, who sent me to my dentist, who sent me to a specialist. The specialist finally sent me to the orthodontist I had in middle school.
See, the thing is, the orthodontist just told me that my options are: permanent orthodontics, jaw surgery, or to keep doing what I’ve been doing. The specialist created a mouthpiece that corrects my bite and I wear it every night, and during the day when I feel I need to. What I’m doing right now is treating the symptom – which, yay, that’s great when everything’s awesome. That doesn’t help my stress headaches, or my migraines – just the headaches that are from the TMJ.
I had braces in middle school and wore the rubberbands 23 hours a day. I had a permanent retainer on the lower jaw; it was removed so I could have an MRI for my migraines and never put back. Did that lead to this current problem? Who the fuck knows.
So, permanent orthodontics, jaw surgery, or just keep treating the symptom. Because my bite is pretty terrible, even if the teeth themselves seem to be fine. According the specialist, I’m an “interesting case” and difficult to treat because my tongue is kinda big and my teeth are kinda small. Gotta love being the interesting case, right?
I’m just so tired of my head hurting.

Date: 2014-04-01 05:31 am (UTC)That all sucks. Have they looked into physio or massage for muscle tension that might be contributing? *hugs*

Date: 2014-04-02 03:50 pm (UTC)None of them have mentioned anything but chemical intervention. Would that be something to ask my regular doctor about?

Date: 2014-04-02 04:11 pm (UTC)As well as massage and physio, maybe ask about chiropractic too, since prolonged muscle tension can pull stuff out of alignment and just make everything worse. Some chiros will also do a kind of head rub thing that eases pressure for sinuses that might or might not help your jaw issue, but if it might help it could be worth a shot? Chiropractors can be a bit hit or miss sometimes, but there are good ones out there that do help. Some people also get good results for a variety of muscle/joint/tension issues from acupuncture, but I've never tried that myself so I can't speak to it.
Check with your insurer for what they cover as well though, if money's an issue. Even in Canada there are user fees for this sort of thing.

Date: 2014-04-02 03:51 pm (UTC)During middle school, during the early days of my braces, there was something on the roof of my mouth that my mom had to crank every night before I went to bed, so spread my teeth out. *shudders*

Date: 2014-04-05 05:22 am (UTC)I could, probably, but the specialist had also mentioned my bite being out of whack, and the orthodontist is the best in town. *shrug*
I've basically learned to live with the headaches, but there's a lot of stress in my life at the moment.
I did get some really good news yesterday, though, and I saw Captain America 2 today!

Date: 2014-05-10 01:11 pm (UTC)Also, I've seen Winter Soldier 3 times at this point. I love how Bucky is such a game changer, not just in terms of Cap but the whole MCU, particularly Loki and Shield.
Let's see if they pay off what they built up....

Date: 2014-05-11 04:01 pm (UTC)I've seen Cap2 three times, too! Aww, Bucky. He's my second favorite after Loki (a pretty close second, too).
I have been doing better; the semester's over and I almost definitely have a 4.0. *dances*

Date: 2014-08-06 04:07 pm (UTC)I left you a comment; I liked the drabble, but you should be aware that I haven't seen anything past the second ep of season 7, so there may be nuanaces I missed?
Also, yes, I've seen Guardians of the Galaxy! Three times in three days. It's awesome. Rocket&Groot are my faves.
