Just walked around my parents’ neighborhood.
Mom pointed out everywhere that was completely underwater when they hightailed the fuck out yesterday because if they didn’t leave then, they wouldn’t have been able to.
Thankfully, it seems they would’ve been fine because the water turned back just in time - but oh my god, so many thousands are not that lucky. A foot more of water and it would’ve been in the house.
5:40ish yesterday (August 14), after my family got the hell out. This is from my parents' driveway. Lilsis lives in apt complex done the street, on the third floor. She&brother-in-law walked over.
Today (August 15) at 8ish in the morning. The water came about a foot away from the house before receding.
The next three are all the back of the neighborhood. The blvd in the third one was completely underwater when they left (taking that road because it was the only still passable. The water was up to the bumper of my dad's car. The car in the last two pictures is dead in the water; further down that blvd I mentioned earlier are three more.

We are so goddamned lucky.

Date: 2016-08-18 02:46 am (UTC)The dogs are fine. They aren't really getting along with Mom's dog, so they're still being almost totally separated, but beyond that, it's going well. (It really helps that Mom is a total dog person.)
