Okay, so in my writing class last year, I signed up for a thing that lets you know when something academic attached to your name is downloaded; the only thing I have academically accessible is my Master’s thesis.

I just got updated that someone in Norway and someone in Iran downloaded my thesis about elderly emergent readers and their life history with literacy. It’s odd yet cool.

And. I CAN BE FOUND ON GOOGLE SCHOLAR.

That's cool. (And I'm thinking probably not that weird. I wouldn't be surprised if there are older illiterate folks in Iran. I know that Morrocco and Bangladesh have adult literacy programs.)

I know I've seen a PBS special about this 'quiet revolution'. Many of the adults who became literate have started getting involved in government in India. Many of the teachers in Bangladesh were of upper caste, and they ended up not believing in 'caste' anymore.

Also, Khan Academy was on PBS. They've had their educational videos translated into several different languages. (The videos are on YouTube and free.) They've had kids from rural areas (where children are needed to help with livestock and farming) say that they have to miss part of the school year to such needs.

But thanks to Khan Academy videos, they can watch them, and stay current with their classmates, so they don't lose time. So their parents might have had to drop out of school, because they fell too far behind, but their kids won't. I'll admit I sniffled at that.
