beginning madness with a smile
May. 20th, 2006 10:36 pmBefore “Supernatural” I’d never really had an obsession.
Sure, I went through the “Buffy” phase, the “Digimon” phase, and the “Charmed” phase—but none went as deep, as complete as “Supernatural.”
I decided, based upon the promos, to watch the pilot when it premiered. I did, turning the lamp(I always have as many lights off as possible: to save energy, because I have excellent night vision, and because my eyes are very sensitive)on halfway through.
That night I had a nightmare. I can’t even remember what it was, but I decided “Supernatural” wasn’t worth it.
Over the next few months, I saw bits and snatches here and there. I caught half a scene of “Phantom Traveler” and “Skin,” I realized later.
Then I saw the promos for “The Journey Home” and chose to risk it.
I fell completely head over heels for Dean Winchester. I also turned the lamp on.
That night, I had no nightmares at all. Whether that had to do with my medication—I was sick—or the fact that Fate was telling me something, I don’t know.
I watched “Home” again on Sunday, “Asylum” on Tuesday then Sunday—no nightmares. Then I watched all the repeats they deigned to air—I couldn’t get enough of the boys and their dynamic and their plight.
I found Jensen Ackles to be—um, beautiful? Gorgeous? Perfection incarnate? Jared is no slouch himself, but I’m a DeanGirl all the way.
So, I imdb’d the boys and saw Jensen had a movie out, Devour. I rented it and now own it. I rented New York Minute, House of Wax, Flight of the Phoenix, and Cry_Wolf. I own only New York Minute and House of Wax, because the other two… maybe if it were Jensen in them.
I convinced my father to connect with blockbuster.com for “Dark Angel” and “Smallville” DVD’s.
When “Pollo Loco” arrived, I fell totally in love with Ben, Jensen’s character. I can’t really articulate why, darlings. He’s—completely charismatic and beautifully broken—just a lost little boy, searching for a reason in world that’s lost its mind.
I sent “Pollo Loco” back, still adoring Ben and loathing Max, wondering if Jensen could possibly do as well as Alec.
(I also loved NotDean from “Skin”. That be my favorite ep of SN, hands down. Jensen did an amazing job.)
Alec—love. Not as much as Ben; Alec and Dean were tied as my second favorite characters all the way until “Devil’s Trap”—but that comes later.
So my birthday rolls around. I ask for season 2 of DA. (By this time, “Pollo Loco” has made its way back to me. I’ve decided to keep it, indefinitely. Blockbuster.com says you can keep a disk as long as you want, no charge. I’d like to keep it forever.) I receive season 2.
And I start renting “Gilmore Girls” season 1. CuteSammyDean is adorable. I despise Rory as much as I despise Max and Lana. (Did I forget to mention I’m also renting SV season 4? Sorry.)
Jensen is undeniably my favorite of the two, but Jared is second on my list of actors.
I scoured blockbuster.com for anything that has either of them. Everything I could find I either now own it, have seen it, or it’s in my queue.
My PowerPoint “Jensen Ackles—with a dash of Jared Padalecki” is 174 slides long. SN fanfiction has taken over my creative abilities. I’ve told every member of my family I speak to about it.
It has completely taken over my life. And I do not understand.
What on Earth about this show compels me so? These two guys—why didn’t Xander/Nick Brenden or Chris/Drew Fuller do this to me? I had a crush on Orlando Bloom for almost five years and I own only four movies he’s in, three of them being LotR!
Nothing has ever made me go this far. I actually buy magazines for a single article, cut the article out, and recycle the rest. I’m planning on making a scrapbook out of all the pieces I’ve taken.
I’ve never been like this before, for anything.
(Oh, I forgot—during the NotJohn-torture-crush on his host’s son scene of “Devil’s Trap”, Dean leapt to tied with Ben as my all-time favorite character.)

Date: 2006-05-21 05:49 am (UTC)I'm wit you with only with slight adjust: 1)Dean, 2)Ben, 3)Alec.
Glad to see you're LJing now. Will be much easier to keep up with your SPN stories. Couple things you may or may not know about LJ protocols that kinda bit me in the ass when I first started, so I thought I'd pass them on in case you're interested. This page is damn helpful in figuring out how to do everything everyone here already assumes you know how to do:
http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml
For the most part, posting communities want you to put your stories behind what they call a "cut." I had no idea what that was so somebody passed the FAQ page to me so I could figure out what it is and how to do it so comments could focus on whether or not folk liked the stories rather than the fact that I needed to learn how to use a cut. :) So if you need it, here it is. If you already know all that stuff, never mind.
I'm also going to offer you some links to the various communities I've found a lot of fun for posting to. Don't feel any obligation to join any of them, I just know it took me a while to figure out how to post my SPN fic somewhere the SPN fans could find it, and these are the ones I do most of my posting to.
The first one, in particular, seems to be a great clearinghouse of SPN fiction, and I read a lot off it as well as post all my SPN fic there. The last one is a resource page I find very helpful on a lot of different SPN related subjects. The newsletter is great because they gather all sorts of SPN stuff together in one place for you so you can see the new SPN fic that's been posted, find metas, get to pics that people are posting, find fic recs, etc, etc, etc.
Hopefully, this is a good welcome basket full of goodies to get you zooming along at full speed. Your fic is too good for others not to know where to find it.
Happy LJing.

Date: 2006-05-21 09:12 am (UTC)Supernatural's the second major fandom of my life. I had a 7-year last obsession record for the Harry Potter fandom, but I don't recall falling as head-over-heels in love and as quickly as I did with Supernatural. Something about it just drew me in.
I got converted late into the first season. The first time I decided to give the fandom a try, I downloaded the first episode and watched it on a Saturday morning, alone in my room. I watched the first half of it, and decided Supernatural was not for me. I'm the kind of person that hates horror movies, end of story. The next two nights, I had nightmares. Which made me even more determined to stick to my earlier decision and stay away from SN.
I couldn't help it. I went back to finish the latter half because the suspense was killing me.
I thought I could stop after the first episode. And then -- the ending happened. Jessica died. And I was hooked.
For a while, I was still hesitant about watching, but one night, I managed to catch Hell House while it was airing. That solved the problem for me. Other than the fact that that's easily one of the least-freaky/funniest episodes of the season, I had all the lights in the house on, and it wasn't scary at all. XD Since then, I've been ultra obsessed and head-over-heels in love with Jared Padalecki. And Jensen Ackles, of course. :D The on-stage chemistry of those two are amazing.
er.. yes. XD That's all. ♥
