Four months across the plains of Texas, from the panhandle to Mexico’s border and back. Trail ends just outside of a little nothing-town and a body dressed as his bounty.
So he brings the corpse in for money and is called a murderer. He doesn’t stick around for the hanging. He leaves Texas, looking over his shoulder the entire way, heading out into the desert. And he stays for a long while, melting into the tribes, abandoning civilization without regret.

He throws himself full-tilt into the plan, determined to get his little sister out of that hellhole if it’s the final thing he ever does.
And it’s easy. He tosses away his fortune and his future, all of his potential and his dreams, every hope he’s ever had—and it’s easier than anything he has ever done before.
Because River is his life and always has been. From the moment their parents showed him his baby sister, she was the most important thing in the ‘verse.
And now she needs him. It is the simplest, easiest thing he’s ever done.

Hi there

Everytime I listen to the song "Renegade" (which is kind of often :-) ) I think of Vin so I love the title and this is like a little portrait of the man which perfectly captures him. My favorite part was:

abandoning civilization without regret

That seems to be the essence of Vin to me.

And, at first, I didn't like Simon but he kinda grows on a person and his loyalty to his sister is his very best quality.

So, so nice. Makes you want to hug them. And yes, that's how Simon thought. I don't think he'd ever, ever had one moment of hesitation between his comfortable life and River.(I got a thing for the sibling love of the Tam. Maybe cuz I'm the youngest sister and my bro is very protective of me.)

You are so good, you know? the frantic search for the bounty is just perfectly rendered in that first phrase. And it winds down, slows, to Vin disappearing in the wilderness in the last one. So, so lovely!

Excellent - it's been a while since I thought of (or heard) "Renegade" - and it's the perfect choice for Vin. (Even though recently I was channel-surfing and heard "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" and thought of several Mag7 Alternate Universes, especially W&Bfic's delightfully dark one . . . ) Love the fic of course - and agree with the accuracy of the line about abandoning civilization with no regret. So Vin. Thanks for sharing!!!
