That first time she saw him, huddled in her shed—she didn’t feel fear. Looking back later, she wonders why.
He seemed so sad, weary. Lost.
And she can’t explain, even to herself, what possessed her to bring him into her house. Let him stay near her children.
But he never seemed like a threat. Not once. He was gentle, kind, soft-spoken like men she’d only dreamed about. She wanted to help him, to take away that hooded pain in his brilliant blue eyes. He looked at her like she was special, the only woman he’d ever seen; he spoke to her in an innocent way, like he just wanted to understand and she was only one who show him everything.
The entire time he was with her, she never felt fear. Not once. Not of him. For him, yes, because he just seemed so lost—but never of him.
And when he showed her his real form, she could barely breathe in awe. Here he was, all she’d ever wanted, and he had to go away, because that was just her life—but. He looked at her like she was something special, the greatest thing he’d ever seen, and he’d given her respect and trust, and—
And she could not fear him, because he’d never hurt her, and that very first time she saw him in her shed, she knew that.
