Blue Beard was a man with seven wives(though, not at the same time). His newest wife was beautiful and young(of course), and he gave her a key to every room in the castle, but told her to never enter the room opened by the smallest.
He went away on business; her curiosity got the better of her. In the forbidden room were the rotting corpses of his previous wives. Of course, she flipped out and ran from the room. But she dropped the key on the blood-drenched floor, so she had to go back for it. And it was stained with blood, showing her guilt. No matter how she scrubbed, the blood would not come off.
Blue Beard returned and asked for the keyring; she tried hiding the smallest key, but he asked where it was. When she revealed it, he knew instantly that she had been in the forbidden room.
He told her that since she disobeyed him, she must be punished--like his previous wives.
However, her brothers were on the way to visit, so Blue Beard's newest wife asked for a day in which to purify her soul; he granted it.
Her brothers arrived just in time to save her life, killing Blue Beard.
