I watched some "Dark Angel" the other day, the ep where
we first meet the snake cult
(really, what the fuck?) and about half of "Hello, Goodbye".

I REALLY FUCKING HATE MAX.  I want to feed her to a shark.  Why can't Alec leave Seattle and Saintly Queen Max and her court and go have his own life?  Why does he have to play second fiddle to one of the worst characters ever written, played by one of the worst actors to ever attempt the art?  *kills*

And it's not even that she killed Ben(oh, BEN) in the first ep I ever saw.  Really, it's not.  I could've gotten over that if she were better, but SHE'S NOT.  She never learns from her mistakes, and she's never really any nicer to Alec, and she should FUCKING UNDERSTAND what he's going through, but she DOESN'T, and it pisses me off.

And the writers!  What were they smoking for some of those scripts?  *kills*  Jensen deserves so MUCH BETTER, and why can't the rest of Hollywood see it?

I hate Max.  So much.  More than is healthy, really.

So.  *coughs*  I'll just be over there.  *scampers off*

All this repression isn't good for you, hon. You should really just tell us how you feel.

Can Original Cindy go with him?

Max and Season 6 Buffy.

I often wonder how DA would have progressed if it had been continued. I can't help thinking Alec's role would have grown significantly, he's the major talent in the cast.

Really? Xander? I liked him the first few seasons, but he was kinda sanctimonious there towards the end. Spike on the other hand was my boy, always.

Oh, and don't get me started on season two DA. Jensen was the only good part of it. Well, him and Michael Weatherly.

I like to think that Season Six didn't happen. The entire thing was just a figment of our collective imaginations. Except for "Once More With Feeling" (which my aunt and I sing incessantly, especially when we're gaming) and "Tabula Rasa" because they are awesome.

Really the series ended with Buffy's death at the end of Season Five and the two episodes I just named were epitaphs.

If you watched 'And Jesus Brought a Casserole', not only would you get to see Nicki Aycox as Syl, and one of the best scripts of any Dark Angel episode, you'd get to see Max die by her own hand (kinda). Really, it's a must-see episode.

Just the one, pivotal, well-written episode won't hurt you. She's less annoying than Season Two-standard in it.

What I most disapprove of is Max's genius scheme to get Logan to stay away from her by lying that she's seeing Alec, and not even telling Alec about it.

May I remind everyone that we all own fast-forward buttons. It just shows common sense and good taste to use it whenever Max is on the screeen without Alec. And it lowers the blood pressure. :)

the premise was great...but I stopped before Jensen ever showed up because Max was so...stupid. I hate characters who never learn. We should do a Apocafic crossover with SPN/DA and kill Max off!

I hear you, girl !
I can't think of enough reasons to hate her.

Having sent Zack off just so she could stay in Seattle when he's is BROTHER YOU STUPID BITCH and is gonna be in so much trouble, being an X5 and NOT knowing about it... ( ow, Zack. You always were my fav. until Alec. )

Giving Alec trouble for trying to figure out who he is, SERMONING him for the thieving. HELLO, BITCH, what were you doing all the time last season MMH?

She should so feel guilty. Tinga's death is on her. She should just have left Seattle when Zack told her too ( and leave LOGAN ! Come on, you guys are pathetic !)

But...All things considered, you have to be reminded that this wasn't the ALEC show... You have to clench your teeth going through the Berrisford Agenda, when it's an ALEC episode but clearly, it's all about Max AGAIN. ( and the bitch never learns, does she ? )

Seth's death is technically on her (and Logan), too, if you read the novels.

I actually watched the show skipping through all the parts that didn't contain Alec in them. The whole Logan/Max/virus stuff was too nauseating anyway. I didn't watch the 1st season so I didn't get the whole "romantic tension" thing at all.

And after Berrisford Agenda the whole show seemed to go downhill. At least up till then they didn't show us how he could've improved the show if they used him more. I wasn't looking for another Alec-centric episode (though that would've been nice) but more of a Max pulls her head out of her behind and actually empathizes with other people and is less of an ass.

I watched the first episode of season one. Well, after the first 10 minutes, I actually wound up turning on the captions and fast-forwarding through most of it.

I then skipped straight to season two... and only to episodes the the Ackles was in. *facepalm*

Yeah. In full agreement, here.

And the thing is, Max was actually pretty likeable in the first season...

From what I understand and this is from the discussion on the TWOP DA thread, which if you haven't, you should read - Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly were acting like complete dicks, totally abusing their positions as the stars. Weatherly also felt threatened by Ackles. A thirty somethng man threatened by a twenty year old. Right.

Alba and Weatherly wanted to become producers of the series and have more editorial control. They'd screw up takes and lines and in protest, the writers began to write the most awful stuff for them. I'm not sure how much of the blame about the rest of the programmes' ills - the down-grading of OC, the cult plot, etc - lies at Alba/Weatherly's door or the producers

To be fair to Alba, she was not mentally stable at that point, due to pressures put on her By James Cameron, not least of which had her exercised into anorexia, which must be cripling on an already delicate pysche. I don't offer that as an excuse, just a fact.

Weatherly certainly wasn't physically impaired, he was just a dick. to his credit, he's admitted that he was a cunt at that time and has wished he could do it again differently. I've never heard anyone on NCIS talk badly of him, so he must have got his act together, or maybe bacause it's an ensemble, he's aware that he's replaceable.

It does put things in context. It does seem that Alba had been horribly emotionally abused by the men in her life up to that point, and she was still very young. Anorexia on top of that? I'm surprised she's still with us.

It doesn't excuse her behaviour, but does give an insight into why a promising programme ended up the trainwreck that it did.

Yeah, I heard that Weatherly was upset that Alec got a backstory episode ('The Berrisford Agenda') and Logan never did. This lead to things like Mia's saccharine championing of Max/Logan and Logan saving Alec from that female Familiar.

Ackles noted in a magazine interview that Alba had been somewhat rude to him because of the pressure she was under to carry the weight of the show, but later apologized to him.

And regarding the change from Season One to Season Two, I missed Kendra and Herbal and didn't think much of Asha.

Kendra was the room mate in that squat? I was meh on her. I can't remember who Herbal is.

I actually really liked Asha. I buy Asha/Alec more than the Alec/Max/Logan season three would have brought us. The Familiar plot was utterly stupid and I wasn't overly keen on Joshua, even though he was sweet. I've never worked out how I can like a character and still think he was pointless, unlike Logan who I didn't like and thought was pointless.

But downgrading OC? FAIL. I'm pleased she's recurring in Reaper, it's nice to see her on the TV again.

Herbal Thought was Max's Rastafarian co-worker.

OC and the other Jam Pony people got the shaft in Season Two with the transgenic and Familiar storylines rising, and watching Season One I could see how it happened. In many episodes, they had their own subplot which, while it was entertaining, was separate from Max's. TPTB made them extraneous, and then they downsized them.

The premise of Max searching for her siblings also got derailed. They didn't even get around to naming three of them, whom in the novels were said to be Seth, Vada, and Kavi, all dead by the time of the Pilot (Max and Logan's fault in the case of Seth, a very similar personality to Alec). We never saw Zane or Jondy as an adult. We don't see what happens to Krit, Syl, or Brin after '..And Jesus Brought a Casserole', or Tinga's husband and son.

Syl and Krit were supposed to reappear in the last two episodes of Season Two, but the actors weren't available, so CeCe and Biggs were invented.

I've not read the books - I don't even know if they're available here - but it is sad how a promising series was derailed. I think everything has a point where it catches fire and just works, but if you miss that point...

The snake cult and the trangenics was just one of the most awful plotlines ever. Didn't help the programme in light of the other bothers it was having. I think it matches Alias S3 for ballsed up plotlines. Proof, I guess, that even when aseries has caught fire and is thundering along, it's still possible to bollocks it up.

And how they got rid of Zack was stupid. Send a superstrong human with amnesia into the middle of nowhere. Yeah, that'll work.

However season five Angel should never have been made was way, way, way better than any season of Buffy that wasn't 1,2 or 3.

Yes, Kendra was the roommate and a teacher. There was another roommate whose husband died in the Pilot, OC replaced her in the place.

Oh, and another thing. In 'Fuhgeddaboudit', Alec says that Max is "just a girl". This isn't realistic, given that he's trained with female X5s his whole life and has already been defeated by this particular one before.

Not to mention the story (until a network person confirms it it'll always have to remain apocrypha unless Jensen writes his memoirs some day and includes this):

If DA had gone for that third season, supposedly TPTB were planning an eventual spinoff with Alec as the lead character, possibly with at least part of the original cast.

Heck, get rid of the two leads and you would have had a marvelous show with Alec. And it had nothing to do with being younger or anything else. "One-Take Ackles," as his nickname went on that set, was simply much easier to work with. SPN, and the old STAR TREK:ENTERPRISE are two examples of how much better the show moves behind the scenes when the set is a happier one than DA.

Not to mention that he was and is one fine performer. And has been blessed with marvelous characters to play like Alec and Dean.

Tigriswolf, may I friend you? Your work brings me great joy and I'd like to keep up with it.
