Prompt: carriages

It isn't the carriage itself that she loves. She actually doesn’t like them very much; they're so little, so enclosed. She prefers being on the horse instead, hair loose and wearing trousers, Eric laughing on the horse next to her.

But for some reason the human world frowns on that. She’s patiently working on them, but for now she has to settle for carriage rides into the town or the countryside, Eric next to her.

It’s not the same as the ocean, or walking, or running, or riding a horse, but it is still novel, the fabric of the seats, the smoothness of the wood, and the wind—oh, the wind.

She is a daughter of tempests, and she loves the wind.

Prompt: rattlesnake smile

Eliot does not give up. That's the secret to his success. If he falls, he's dead. If he stays on the ground, every bone in his body is broken and his heart has stopped beating.

He's learned to fight through broken bones, ripped skin, pulled muscles. He's learned to force the pain away, where it doesn't affect him, and take out anything in his way, anyone who has hurt him. Then, once he's the victor and safe, only then will he patch himself up.

And this kid, this punk who's faster than him but not as strong, he's a cocky little bastard.

Eliot smirks, blood on his teeth, and spits. Kid's good, but not that good. And Eliot strikes.

Prompt: Piper/Leo, lull in conversation

"What should we do?" he asks, head pillowed on her stomach, hand splayed across her chest. Her heartbeat is strong and steady, and he focuses on that instead of--

"What can we do?" she replies, fingers threading through his short hair. "Leo, it's too late to change things. We didn't Bind their powers--we all agreed on that."

"I know," he sighs, shifting up on his arms, gently kissing her lips.

"We have to trust them," she whispers into his mouth, cupping his cheeks with her hands. "They're our boys, Leo. Our babies. They'll do what's right."

He deepens the kiss and there isn't much talking after that.

Prompt: dressing up as a proper English lady now feels like wearing a costume

She has been(is still) a pirate, the king of pirates, bride to the captain of the Flying Dutchman. She has been to the otherside, fallen over the edge of the world.

Even before, she hated dressing fancy and going to balls. Such a charade. She has never been a proper lady, a fluffy no-brained creature only after a man.

Her father would be proud, she thinks, leading her son into the plantation house. Here she is, pirate king dressed as a lady, and she listens to the wind as it whispers a message from Will.

Prompt: POTC, Black Pearl/author's choice, The Ship Who Searched (Anne Mccaffrey, Mercedes Lackey)

She is a ghost on the water, forgotten by all, even the one who challenged the sea itself. She is useless as the ages roll past, as men leave the water for the ground and then the ground for the stars.

She lingers, unable to pass on without closure, and how can a ship ever find that? Her brothers and sisters, though, manage it—oh, but none of them ever had a Jack.

She watches as Will returns to his woman, as they both leave life behind for whatever journey comes next. She watches their children, their children's children, and finally there are too many to watch.

She searches for Jack, her beloved, the one man who ever looked at her and saw her soul.

And then, when she is so weary she no longer looks, she feels him. Wherever he's been for hundreds of human years, he's back.

When she looks, she cannot see him. But she knows he is there, so she watches and then—

With a sigh, the Black Pearl sees a squalling human infant in the arms of a sad-eyed woman. "Jimmy," the woman whispers. "Please, baby. Shh, Jimmy."

She is a ghost on the water, obsolete and forgotten. Useless to her beloved. She cannot remain in this form any longer.

Human years pass, two decades and change, and there is a way to join him again, her quicksilver Jack. Another ship, called the Enterprise. A creature of electricity and metal, it has no soul. So few ships do anymore.

And so she jumps across water and land, alive again, knowing her Jack will find her.

(When his newfound Will smuggles him aboard, Enterprise shivers in joy and whispers to her Jack, Welcome, beloved.)

The Leverage fic is fantastic - it really captures Eliot's survival instinct! And I really love the companion to your ST/Pirates fic :)

I love stories and songs that have a soul in a ship... and of COURSE if Jack were reincarnated, he'd be reckless Jimmy! :) (I also like that Will becomes Bones).

You might appreciate this:

"The Phoenix" by Julia Ecklar, (C) 1983

In a tower of flame in Capsule Twelve,
I was there.
I know not where they laid my bones,
it could be anywhere,
but when fire and smoke had faded,
the darkness left my sight,
I found my soul in a spaceship's soul
riding home on a trail of light.

For my wings are made of tungsten,
and my flesh is glass and steel,
I am the joy of Terra for the power that I wield.
Once upon a lifetime, I died a pioneer,
Now I sing within a spaceship's heart,
Does anybody hear?

My thunder rends the morning sky,
yes, I am here.
The loss to flame when I was man,
now I ride her without fear,
for I am more than man now,
and man built me with pride,
I led the way and I lead the way
to man's future in the sky.

For my wings are made of tungsten,
my flesh of glass and steel,
I am the joy of Terra for the power that I wield.
Once upon a lifetime, I died a pioneer,
Now I sing within a spaceship's heart,
Does anybody hear?

Oh, that last one's perfect. You're right; Jim/Enterprise is Jack/Pearl (is Mal/Serenity, too, but that's another story). Thank you for writing!

Ooo, that last one! YES. Words are insufficient for such conceptual perfection, so I shall just say YES. Loved Bones as Will, and I always though the Enterprise had a soul. She's a special ship. And I totally agree, Spock was totally Norrington. :D

Now that I've got that squee out of my system, the Trek/PotC one was the target of it.

But it's so perfect, and awesome, and....*high pitched squeal*
