Prompt: Batman dies protecting Red Hood from the explosion.
Jason just sits there, in the rubble and dust, holding Batman(Bruce) and thinks, horribly, that it doesn't make up for letting the Joker live so long.
When the Joker starts up his hyena-laugh, the one that's haunted Jason's every moment for years, Jason raises his gun and puts a bullet between the fucker's eyes.
And Jason just keeps sitting there, thinking, I killed him. I killed Batman. I killed Joker.
I killed Bruce.
And raising his eyes to look at the dark sky, he thinks, Does this mean Gotham is mine?

Prompt: Alfred & any other Bat-fam member(s), Cooking with Alfred (Bonus points if one of the Bats burns/breaks/or ruins something)
Notes: This wanted to be longer, with a backstory that includes cooking lessons and a destroyed kitchen.
The day after they buried Jason, Alfred baked cupcakes (strawberry with chocolate icing and sprinkles) and placed one on the grave.
As he stood there, he remembered a defiant and angry young boy, a skilled and proud young man, and imagined the magnificent adult he could have become.
"You will be missed, Jason," he said, and then returned to the manor and his grieving master within.

Rating: PG
Wordcount: 365
Point of view: third
Prompt: Neal/Peter, any type of AU
Notes: same verse as this
In this world, they are an ex-con FBI consultant and an FBI agent.
But in another world, the boy who would one day be Neal Caffrey decided he really enjoyed using the guns his uncle didn't lock away, and he really really liked the look in people's eyes when they realized, why, yes, sir, I am about to pull this trigger.
Maybe that's because in another world, Neal Caffrey's little brother died as an infant instead of at four, and the boy who would become Neal Caffrey had no one to care for but himself, and he never lets anyone close. Maybe the woman who'd one day call herself Kate Moreau didn't escape the banal existence of her birth and Mozzie never made it past puberty because drunken assholes are everywhere, often running stoplights.
And in that other world, maybe Peter Burke chose numbers over law enforcement and still made enemies, because he's uncompromising in any reality, but in this one, he didn't know how to defend himself and expected the world to protect the innocent.
And maybe, Neal Caffrey does take a shine to the man he's been hired to kill. Maybe he even thinks about kissing him, licking him, caressing him with fingers and the cold muzzle of a gun.
Please, don't, Peter asks, but he doesn't beg and he doesn't cry. In this world, there is no Elizabeth to plead for her husband's life because Peter's never been to New York. There is no Satchmo or any other dog because his apartment doesn't allow them.
There is only Peter, and there is only Neal, and there is only a contract for Peter's life.
Neal looks him in the eye, in this world where he really likes guns, and he pulls the trigger. And he watches Peter Burke die, and he sterilizes the scene, and he reports the job as complete.
But that is not this world. In this world, Neal is mocking Peter's tie collection and Elizabeth is laughing and Satchmo is begging for treats and Peter is saying they're going to be late.
In this world, Neal hates guns because he knows how good he is with them, and how easy it'd be.

Pairings: Jason Todd/Tim Drake
Rating: PG13
Wordcount: 210
Point of view: third
Prompt: Jason Todd/Tim Drake, "I love watching you work."
They met years after Timmy left the old man, that sick bastard who trained them both. Jason'd wanted to be the one to kill him, but Timmy said that it was actually the first kid, the one who'd been with the bastard the longest. He went back late one night, not too long after Timmy finally had enough.
Jason supposes that's alright then.
o0o
Timmy has morals. Jason finds that adorable. Timmy tries to only go after monsters wearing human skin, men who beat their wives, women who hurt kids, druglords and murderers and pimps who enjoy the goods whether the girl wants it or not.
Jason isn't so picky, though. His life before the old man was too full of blood and pain, and his life with the old man? Well. All those few years did was refine his taste.

But even Timmy has to admit, this guy deserves everything they'll do to him.
Jason offers him the knife. Timmy smiles and shakes his head. "No," he says. "I love watching you work."
The guy whimpers, closing his eyes. Jason pulls Timmy in for a kiss, biting down on Timmy's lip till he bleeds.
They were taught by the same man, and sometimes Jason thinks they were born for this.

chapter 3
When Princess Mia became Queen Amelia, everyone wondered what might change, not just in the palace but all over Genovia. She was American, after all, and as sweet as she was, she also had some strange ideas.
(Lionel and Joe struck fear into the hearts of everyone who witnessed Princess Mia running around in her nightgown, and none of those pictures ever saw the light of day. Joe has diplomatic immunity in forty-six countries, you know.)
When Queen Amelia married Lord Devereaux, most Genovians breathed a small sigh of relief. While he had spent many years abroad, he'd been raised in Genovia, so surely he could rein in some of the Queen's wilder ideas.
And at first, that seemed to be the case. He offered up his ancestral home for a second orphanage, along with the royal family's winter palace, and he talked the Queen out of dissolving Parliament. (Everyone but the Queen knew that would have cost her the throne, and possibly led to a revolution, but she'd been stubborn.)
With the birth of their first child, Crown Prince Philippe Rupert, everyone hoped the Queen would settle down, would quit trying to turn centuries of tradition on its head. For a time, she focused on her son and left the running of the country to the Prince Consort.
They all knew, of course, that he was entirely devoted to his wife and so anything he did would have to be approved by her first, and they all loved their Queen. For all her American thinking, she was leading them into the twenty-first century, with a bright smile.
And everyone agreed she looked lovely on the postage stamp.
