Captain America: Civil War
May. 8th, 2016 04:53 pmSo i'm mostly out of the Marvel fandom for reasons i'll go into if asked, but i didnt see Age of Ultron and since about halfway through last year i stopped wanting to see Civil War, too. But people i follow on tumblr keep posting/reblogging stuff, and that's fine, i just skip it.
And then i decided to read a reaction/recap post and they just offhandedly referenced something that is one of the reasons i left the fandom, and when i asked someone for clarification, their explanation is even worse.
I am not seeing Civil War. God, i'm just so angry. I love certain characters so much, and that hasn't changed. But i am no longer mentally in a place where i can deal with the reality of their canon.

*sighs* I loved the MCU.

Date: 2016-05-12 04:25 am (UTC)Well, Loki and Bucky are my favorite characters. Since Loki's a designated villain, I never expected canon to favor him at all and am thoroughly disappointed at being right, and that was fine. That's what fanfiction is for, after all.
But Bucky. I'm not sure what actually changed for me, but at some point last year, I just couldn't read most of the fics about him anymore. There are too many tropes in the fandom that I disagree with and don't enjoy, or even like. And I know that what I want to happen for him will not happen in canon, and it stresses me out to think about what his canon actually is.
I barely read fic about Bucky these days, and haven't for months, and when I do, it's usually total AUs.
I really wasn't expecting much from Civil War, and I never bothered seeing Age of Ultron or Ant-Man. I haven't rewatched any of the MCU in months, and never watched Agents of SHIELD or Agent Carter.
Weirdly enough, I actually discovered quite a few fix-its for Loki, so I've been reading those all day. I kinda want this author to write stuff for Bucky now.
I'm not sure if I answered your question. There wasn't one thing; it was a lot of little things. I just can't handle Bucky's canon at the moment. I think perhaps it's because my imagination has always been so strong, and my love of worldbuilding when I write... they've both screwed me over before.
But when I read that reaction post, and then when I got the answer from that person on tumblr... I hadn't been that angry about a fictional character in a long time. I definition haven't read any of the fics that have been written since Civil War's release, and I probably won't be.
