So, we lost power for a good chunk of yesterday, but [livejournal.com profile] tigremere hooked up the generator left over from Gustav and we even had internet. No TV, though. There's all sorts of branches in the yard, but no giant ones, thankfully. The tree that used to drop those got cut down after Katrina. (It would've killed my car, but [livejournal.com profile] tigremere had foresight and managed to get two cars + a van under the carport. That branch went about half a foot into the ground and the former army guy from across the street had to come help us move it. My car would've been so dead.)

We definitely did not get the worst of the storm here, so yay for that. We're just waiting for the remnants to blow through and then we're gonna walk around the neighborhood.

I actually got no writing done, which is kinda annoying. I did color some My Little Ponies, though.

*sigh*

So, now there's a hurricane headed this way. Fuckin' A.

We haven't had one since Gustav in 2008, which knocked the power out for a week in most of the state. I remember driving through the city at night and the whole thing was dark. Frickin’ creepy, dudes.

And Isaac may make landfall on the anniversary of Katrina... no, that's not ominous at all.

It’s been a good four years. I really hope the thing just blows itself out in the Gulf.
tigriswolf: (platypus)
So, today I had an idea.

See, I’ve been listening to Ceremonials by Florence + the Machine for at least two weeks now, pretty much nonstop. Any time I’m driving anywhere, the CD is in and I just let it play through (except when I have to tune into the radio to figure out why the interstate is closed in both directions for 27 hours because an explosive chemical is leaking and traffic is gridlocked on every surface street in the city).

Now, the thing is, off the top of my head, I can think of four songs from the album that scream AVENGERS FIC at me – Only if for a Night, No Light No Light, Seven Devils, Spectrum – and I could totally come up with something for the rest, too. Pretty damn easily, in fact, if I actually sat down and read the lyrics.

Of course, I have entirely too many other things going on at the moment. But I do kinda wanna write a drabble series, maybe, one for each song.

How have I not tired of this album yet? Usually, I listen to something nonstop for a few days and then I’m done with it for awhile. I really think Ceremonials is the best CD I’ve ever heard.

Blaine was snatched from his art history class by a group of gunmen who kept calling him Stark’s kid, so it hit the internet way before anyone thought to call Kurt. )

So, in the fic where Tony is Jörmungandr - I need someone from Marvel'verse to be Váli&Nari. I've decided that I don't want it to be a crossover, because I'd have to explain whatever 'verse they come from. I've had it as Eames&Arthur, but today, as I was typing it up, I realized that I already have too much going on, and I don't want to deal with even more explanations.

So. Anyone know any good Marvel characters I could use instead?

So, I wrote this fic, right? Where Merlin the most powerful sorcerer/magician/wizard ever was reincarnated and attending Hogwarts. His first year is Harry Potter’s fourth.

And my kid!Merlin accidently released every dragon in the world from the chains the magical communities had placed on them, and all the dragons went to The Isle, a place only dragons and the sorcerer who made it can find. (And, yeah, the dude who made it? Was Merlin.)

So, that means that everything in Harry Potter canon goes AU a few days before the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament, right? The thing is, all I can remember involving dragons is when the Trio rode a dragon out of Gringrotts.

I don’t suppose anyone out there can imagine a couple other ramifications? I’m pretty sure people would be talking about the dragons going missing, right?

Because, yes, more and more bits of Second Year keep sauntering into my brain.

Why is that no fics I've read have ever mentioned that the Warriors 3 + Sif committed treason? And Heimdallr?

Fact: Odin (the king, even if he is a douchebag, and a dude all of the aforementioned jerkasses are supposedly loyal to) banished Thor for being a war-mongering, easily-angered, going-to-get-everyone-killed idiot. Yes? King banishes prince, takes his magic (mostly), and tosses him down to Earth to prove himself.

Fact: Odin then falls into the most helpfully timed healing sleep ever and for some reason his wife doesn't take over for a few days. Okay.

Fact: Odin has a second son and he takes over. Makes sense because there’s an heir and a spare, right? Heir’s out of town so spare steps up.

Fact: So now we have an Acting King, who, while he may not want to be king, he is not, at least, easily angered. Like, he didn't actually want to go to Jotunheimr, and he almost got them out of there without fighting - except, oh, right. Thor decided to start a war. Which he got banished for.

Fact: Warriors 3 + Sif don't like Loki. For some reason, neither does Heimdallr. So what do they do? They decide to ignore not only Loki's commandments, but also Odin's - that dude they all claim to be loyal to. You know why the Destroyer showed up in New Mexico? Because the king had traitors he needed to deal with, and they happened to be on a planet that didn't have a treaty with Asgard. And if all the humans would’ve stayed out of the way, a few buildings might have gotten singed, but we’re a hardy people. We can deal with that.

So. No fic I've seen has mentioned the treachery, and how that might have added to everything else Loki was dealing with. Why? Because he’s “the villain”? He was following the king’s rules and keeping the banished guy banished because – as evidenced by Thor on Jotunheimr, he wasn’t ready to be king.

Yes, Loki’s my favorite. Yes, I mentioned the above in one of my fics, and a prompt I left in the kinkmeme. But I can’t recall any other fic about it.

It just makes me mad. *sigh*

Have commas, periods, and hyphens always been counted in the word-counting software? Because that throws off pretty much everything I've ever written.

Pick any passage of 500 words or fewer from something I've written, and leave it in a comment here. Then ask a question about it - what I was thinking, why that's the plot twist I chose, what I think might happen later, how I could've totally changed it up... anything you want to know.

So, along with everything else I'm working on and failing to finish, I started something new today. An Avengers/Norse myth crossover where Rhodey (Tony's best friend) is Sleipnir, Happy (Tony Stark's bodyguard) is Fenrir, Tony himself is Jörmungandr, Pepper is Hela, and either Bryce Larkin or Eames is Vali, and Neal Caffrey is Nari (I'm waiting to hear back from the prompter for those last two).

Now. My questions are these:

Should I just find two Marvel canon characters to be Vali&Nari? Because it's already intricate enough and I don't want to worry about other canons, too?

What color is Fenrir's fur? I think I want him to be a black wolf.

Should Hela be the goddess of the dead, or should I just ignore that part? Maybe she's turned her back on everything but her family.

Also, I think I've decided that Loki is mother of them all, instead of just Sleipnir.

And I'm either changing or ignoring certain parts of the Iron Man movies, so that it fits into the whole 'some of the characters are mythological figures' thing better. Should I mention within the narrative itself whenever that happens (somehow) or just assume the reader is clever enough to figure that out?
